The annual Hawkeye Wrestling Club Banquet will be on Saturday, May 4. The banquet will begin at 5 PM at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center at 7725 Kirkwood Blvd SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The annual banquet is always a good time and an important fundraiser for the HWC. Spencer Lee won the 2024 Olympic Team Trials at 57kg  last weekend. The buzz and excitement of a Hawk in the Olympics is always great to talk about.     There will be a buffet style dinner and a great crowd of Iowa Wrestling fans. Chun named USA Wrestling Women’s Coach of the Year

Iowa Wrestling coach Clarissa Chun has been named as the 2024 USA Wrestling Women’s Coach of the Year. The announcement was made by USA Wrestling at the conclusion of the Olympic Team Trials on Saturday. Chun was also named as the NCWWC Women’s Wrestling Coach of the Year at the national championships in March.     In their first year of competition the Iowa Hawkeye Women’s team won the NCWWC National title and NWCA National Duals. Online auction for Take Down Homelessness

An online auction is now open for the University of Iowa Wrestling Take Down Homelessness fundraiser. The online auction will close on Friday, April 26 at 8 PM CST. This is a great fundraiser where fans can bid in an online auction to have dinner with one of their favorite Iowa wrestlers and Tom Brands. All of the proceeds go to support Shelter House in Iowa City. Eight Hawks compete in Olympic Team Trials

Eight members of the Iowa Women’s Wrestling team competed at the 2024 Olympic Team Trials in State College, Pennsylvania.  In the Challenge Tournament Felicity Taylor placed third at 53kg, Reese Larramendy was fourth at 68kg, and Kylie Welker was third at 76kg. Nyla Valencia(50kg), Emilie Gonzalez(50kg), Ava Bayless(50kg), Brianna Gonzalez(53kg), and Marlynne Deede(76kg) did not place. The weight class of 57kg/125 lbs. was first used in the 2014 Freestyle World Championships. Since that time 57kg has been contested at eight World Championships, two Olympics, and another Olympic Games this summer. An Iowa Hawkeye has represented Team USA at 57kg in six of the eight World Championships and in all three Olympics. Earlier today Spencer Lee defeated another Iowa Hawkeye Thomas Gilman to win the 2024 Olympic Team Trials. We will have an All-Hawkeye clash in the 57kg finals in the Olympic Team Trials. Spencer Lee and Thomas Gilman will meet in a best of three format in State College, Pennsylvania. The winner will represent Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France on August 5-11. #4 seed Lee defeated Nico Megaludis 8-0 in the quarterfinals. We will have four former Iowa Hawkeyes competing at the Olympic Trials. The 2024 Olympic Team Trials are this weekend on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 in State College, Pennsylvania. The winner of each weight will represent Team USA for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France on August 5-11. Spencer Lee(#4 seed) and Thomas Gilman(#2 seed) will be at 57kg. In the words of UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer: It’s TIME!!!!!! The 2024 Olympic Trials are this weekend on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 in State College, Pennsylvania. When the dust clears Saturday night the 2024 Olympic Team will be set for Team USA for the Summer Olympics in Paris, France on August 5-11. The Olympic Trials will be shown live on Peacock. The University of Iowa Wrestling program will participate in Take Down Homelessness. This is a great fundraiser where fans can bid in an auction to have dinner with one of their favorite Iowa wrestlers. All of the proceeds go to support Shelter House in Iowa City. In September of 2022 there were 5 Iowa wrestlers that participated in Take Down Homelessness. This year the list has grown to 18 Iowa wrestlers. Two Hawks & two recruits win U20 Nationals

It was a great weekend for the Iowa Wrestling team and incoming recruits at the 2024 U.S. Marine Corp Women’s National Championship in Spokane, Washington.  Two Hawks and two incoming recruits won titles at U20 Nationals. Brianna Gonzalez(53kg) and Reese Larramendy(65kg) won titles for the Hawks. Larramendy defeated teammate Ella Schmit in the finals. Nyla Valencia placed second at 50kg. Incoming recruits Cadence Diduch(62kg) and Naomi Simon(76kg) won U20 National titles. Diduch and Simon are in the Recruiting Class of 2024.
