SXSW is an annual interactive media, music festival and conferences that happens in the month of March in Austin, Texas. Our group “World Music Unleashed” has been selected and invited to perform at this popular festival. We performed at a Russian House on 13th March 2018. It was an unbelievable and unforgettable day for me to be invited by none other than Living Legend Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji himself. Pandit ji has invited me to play at his 80th Birthday celebration at Kamani Auditorium New Delhi on 4th February 2018. Basant Utsav is the celebration of spring. It is similar to Holi, but it is unique to Bengal and is traditionally celebrated with music and colors. I was overjoyed to be a part of the Basant celebration in Houston as it reminded me of similar celebrations in India. I truly felt as though this was my home away from home. I have had the privilege of sharing the stage with Grammy winning Kora player Mamadou Diabaté, Tabla Maestro Gourisankar Karmakar and Sitarist Indrajit Banerjee. Despite having little time to rehearse we were able to blend our respective styles and create some beautiful pieces to play as a group. I really enjoyed working with this ensemble to combine traditional Indian music with the melodious sound of the African Kora. With the blessings of His Holiness Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji and His Holiness Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji, I had a one in a lifetime opportunity to perform in front Lord Mandasa Vasudeva Perumal during the morning services and evening program on the Bramhothsavam or anniversary of the temple. It was a memorable and divine experience for me. There is a very rich history associated with the village of Madasa located in the Srikakulam district of Andra Pradesh, India. I had a wonderful experience performing at this unique festival on their 10th year anniversary on September 9, 2016 . The place was filled with different types of activities including face painting, lantern making, and people dressed in different costumes. The most beautiful part of this festival I liked is “in nature and for nature”. This year this wonderful festival took place at Burien.
