“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT) It is bittersweet that this will be the last post on Laced with Grace. I have been blessed to work alongside so many amazing women for the past 13 years. We hope that God has used our writings to encourage you in your walk with Him. We pray that His Word washed over you with mercy and grace as we have shared ..read more

FAREWELL POST: What Will You Leave Behind

As a young girl, I remember playing the childhood game of “follow the leader”. The rules of the game were quite simple; walk in a single file and do whatever the line leader did. As long as you followed what the leader did, you remained in the game. Fast forward the game to today. The rules are the same, but the leaders have just changed. Who we follow can either break us or make us greater than before. It is no secret in the business world that if you want to be a good leader, you must first learn to be a good follower. The same principal holds true in the life of a Believer. Paul tells us th ..read more

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  Proverbs 3:5,6 (NKJV) Eleven years ago Iris Nelson, the owner of Laced With Grace, asked if I’d like to join the team of writers that made up this wonderful website. I not only said yes, I’ve been blessed to meet some of the writers and readers. I feel at home here. Over the course of those eleven years, I’ve written 182 devotionals. This team and you, our dear readers, have journeyed with me through the good times – grandbabies being born, our son’s ..read more

HOPE

Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house… All the hustle and bustle, the shopping and cooking, the decorating and parties, the joy of giving and receiving are over. What is left? For many, just a messy house, or a long trip back home. But for those who have experienced the miracle of Christmas – there is hope. When we consider the purpose in God’s plan to come in human flesh in order to provide the only way mankind could be reconciled and have a relationship with God, we see that Jesus, The Way, The Truth, The Life, brings hope to all of mankind. Hope is defined as “the desire f ..read more

Responses to Jesus

Blessed Christmas Day! The Gospel of Luke is a pivotal text for the Christmas season. In Luke we see many different reactions to Jesus’ birth. Let’s look at a few of the people who reacted to Jesus and ponder our own response to Jesus. When Mary was told by the angel, “you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus” (Luke 1:31), her initial reaction was, “How can this be since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34). Mary questioned how it was possible for her to be pregnant. I sometimes find myself questioning what God is telling me and wonder “how can this be?” This is one p ..read more

The Faithfulness of Christmas
Laced With Grace – Christian Devotions

On this Christmas Eve day, I reflect on my Christmas past and I am overcome with thankfulness that God has always been faithful to me. While many homes are filled with holiday cheer and roasting chestnuts around their fire tonight, there are also many homes that will be dark, with a chill in the air and no gifts to worry about wrapping. Growing up as a young girl, my mother was a single parent, raising 3 children on little income. Now that my husband and I have raised a family of our own, I understand the burden and the cost of providing Christmas for little, expectant hearts. Realizing now th ..read more

The Light

As a small girl, I feared the dark, dreading bedtime – the long walk down the hall to my bedroom where I would have to lay alone in my little bed far from the comforting presence of my Mom and Dad. My mother understood and provided me with a tiny night light we named “Friend.” It became, for me, a trusted friend whose soft light illuminated the  dark corners where all the frightening, imagined dangers hid – dispelling the fears and bringing with it a quiet peace. I’m all grown up now, and no longer dread bedtime. On the contrary, there’s nothing like sinking into my comfortable bed at the ..read more

“I will be with you”

Have you ever felt that you are in God’s remedial class? You know the class where God keeps teaching the same lesson various ways until you get it. I don’t think that it is real thing, but it is the way I feel sometimes. The story of Moses with the burning bush is one of my favorites. Moses out in the wilderness doing his job tending the sheep and God shows up. Take your sandals off. You are standing on Holy ground. “I AM WHO I AM.” All great stuff Moses asked, “Who am I that I should go to the Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God responded “I will be with you…” I love that ..read more

It’s A Wonderful Life

A few evenings ago, as per my usual annual Christmas tradition, I curled up in the front of the television with my mug of hot chocolate in anticipation of getting lost in the make believe world of my favorite classic Christmas movie. It’s a Wonderful Life is one of my favorites and I watch it almost every . George Bailey is the character that I most empathize with. Maybe it’s because, like me, he’s such a dreamer. George was always dreaming about traveling the world and doing great things. However, circumstances kept getting in the way of George accomplishing his dreams. Still, he always manag ..read more

How Can This Be?
Laced With Grace – Christian Devotions
by Susan

Has a phone call or conversation ever delivered incomprehensible news and you wondered, “How can this be?” You’re not alone… A devout priest, Zechariah was a descendent of Aaron. When his priestly division was on duty at the Temple in Jerusalem, he was chosen to enter the Holy Place. A religious man, schooled in the Scriptures, he was in a religious place where one would expect to encounter God. Yet, when the angel appeared to him, standing beside the altar of incense, Zechariah startled, gripped in fear. Gabriel comforted Zechariah, telling him not to be afraid and providing the reason for hi ..read more
