A council has apologised after parents were offered primary school class photos that excluded pupils with complex needs. Parents whose children attend Aboyne Primary in Aberdeenshire were horrified and complained after being sent a link from a photography company offering them two versions of the class pictures. The mother of a child with additional support needs said she was left “absolutely heartbroken” after her child was removed from her school photo. That Tamsina not be shown alongside the mongo might sell piccies. But, err, you know, If that’s the school class then that’s the school cl ..read more

In one year alone, Thames paid a £656m dividend – pushing the group into the red. Dividends are post-profit, right? It’t literally impossible for a dividend to cause a loss – to go into the red. The post Err, whut? first appeared on Tim Worstall ..read more

Ofwat said: “Safeguards are in place to ensure that services to customers are protected regardless of issues faced by shareholders of Thames Water. Today’s update from Thames Water means the company must now pursue all options to seek further equity for the business to turn around the performance of the company for customers.” It said its price control would put customer and environmental priorities at the heart of the water sector. “To drive this change, we need to ensure that the sector attracts investment and is fair to bill payers. The tossers are price setting at the same time as demand ..read more

That is all very well and good, but what is really needed is an appreciation of the communities and the political alternatives that they provided. Post-steel and post-coal localities need a radical industrial policy that would bring high-paid jobs, skills and opportunities that could form the basis of a real driver of levelling up. As the Port Talbot coke ovens close, what is the government doing to fill the void? So, what? No, that is the big question. Forget about government or markets for a moment. Just concentrate on hte what. So, what work – or industry or product or whatever – will pro ..read more

The sacked chief executive of London-listed Endeavour Mining was involved in $15m (£12m) of “deliberately disguised” payments made to a party based in the UAE, an investigation has found. Sébastien de Montessus transferred the money in 2020 and 2021 to an unknown entity, according to investigators, who said they had failed in their efforts to unmask the recipient. London-listed Endeavour Mining fired Mr Montessus in January, alleging he had made an irregular payment of $5.9m to an unknown third party in March 2021 relating to the sale of its Agbaou gold mine in the Ivory Coast. I’m in the market for a new to me car. And I’m thinking about something fun. Thinking about, not decided upon. £400 beaters don’t work for me. Zero knowledge of cars in the sense of working on them and, also, I’m in Portugal. The registration tax is such that that simply does not work. So, some options. 1) A left hand drive westfield or other such copy of the Lotus 7 or even something equivalent. They do exist but they’re rare. e-Bay used to be the place to see those but apparently they don’t do cars any more. So, where’s that market gone? Simply a fun 2 seater open top.
