Awards Galore!

We’ve long been advocates of entering awards and as recipients of a few ourselves (ahem!), we know how valuable they are, not only for raising awareness and enhancing your credibility, but also for raising staff morale and attracting new members of staff. When the team gets rewarded for their work it’s a great boost for everyone. With that in mind, I’m really pleased that I’ve been asked to be a judge for the National Business Women’s Awards 2024. It’s a huge honour to be given the opportunity to see so many incredible women succeed on their own terms and run successful, growing businesses. Yo ..read more

In it for the Long Run

It seems apt that after our 20th anniversary we should write about being in it for the long run so here we go! We’re often asked whether we would consider working with someone for a shorter period of time of, let’s say, a month. In most cases, our answer is no but with good reason. Obviously we want to develop long-term relationships with our clients, and hopefully this is evident in our track record of retained clients who have been with us for several years. However, our reason for not working with someone for such a short period of time is because any reputable PR agency knows that PR is a ..read more

This week, Cerub PR celebrates its 20th anniversary so we thought we’d share some lessons Cerub PR founder Ceri-Jane Hackling has learnt about running a successful business. 1. Be nice There’s a lot out there about the need to be ruthless when it comes to business but what doesn’t get mentioned often enough is to not forget to be nice to others and to yourself. Talk to people, help them out and don’t expect anything in return. Sometimes it pays off to just be nice. 2. Have fun Business doesn’t always need to be serious and about important decision making. It’s important to make time for fun to ..read more

The Great PR Misconception
Cerub PR

For an industry that specialises in reputation management, PR definitely has a reputation issue. To this day, many business owners and key decision makers associate public relations solely with the activity required to secure media coverage. This was further highlighted by a recent survey which was conducted by the Institute of Directors (IoD) and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR)*. Around 17% of the 100 UK directors asked, said that their organisation had no PR support internally or externally and the majority of UK directors associated public relations with media relations a ..read more

Why Cutting Your PR Budget Will Cost You Dearly

It might seem like we’re biased, but all the evidence points to the fact that maintaining the PR budget is one of most important things you can do when times are tough. It’s well known that during a recession one of the first things businesses look to cut is the marketing budget. At the start of the pandemic, the marketing industry reported that budgets contracted at the fastest pace since the IPA Bellwether began more than 20 years ago with all areas of marketing impacted, especially PR which is often considered a luxury not a necessity in business but it wasn’t long before businesses across ..read more

Do you give your internal communications strategies the attention they deserve or are you focusing on external audiences at the expense of perhaps your most important audience: the people who make up the organisation? These people not only represent your brand to potential and existing clients, they’re also an integral part of your operation’s success and the discipline of internal communications is the glue that holds your people together and committed to the organisational purpose. With jobs moves hitting a record high of 988,000 in the final three months of 2021, UK employers consider emplo ..read more

Why Ted Lasso is Bugging Us!

We’re obsessed with watching Ted Lasso at the moment (if you haven’t watched it, I’d highly recommend it!) but despite the feelgood nature of the series, there’s something that’s been bugging me in its storyline. This might be a small thing in the grand scheme of things (yes, I know it’s a TV programme) but, from a professional point of view, ruffles my feathers! In the programme, the football club appoints a former model with no experience as their head of PR because she’s quirky. Now if this happened only as part of this fictional scenario then I wouldn’t be writing this post but unfortunate ..read more
