If you’re looking for something a bit different from the usual musical theatre subject matter, then how about a show about two sociopathic serial murderers from the Great Depression? 23 year old Bonnie Parker and 25 year old Clyde Barrow achieved notoriety and a lasting infamy due to their bank robbing and subsequent killing spree on the run across the USA in the 1920s. SPOILER ALERT! Dying in a hail of 167 steel jacket bullets in their Ford V8 on a lonely back road in rural Louisiana. Ivan Menchel’s Bonnie and Clyde endeavours to explain the reasons behind the pair’s life choices: poverty, la ..read more

Originally scheduled for 2020, this revival of David Dawson’s 2016 work Swan Lake, heralds spring for Scottish Ballet. Gone is the traditional villain Rothbart, gone are the lavish sets and gone are the feather-laden tutus. Dawson’s has eloquently and elegantly pared back the classical masterpiece to its essential story of first love and rooted it firmly in the present. John Otto’s minimalistic set is simplicity personified, the palette muted shades of grey, the set dressing almost non-existent. Costume designer Yumiko Takeshima’s swan’s barely clad in white leotards with a suggestion of feat ..read more

It is a damning indictment of the society in which we live when a post-apocalyptic world such as the one portrayed in Tortoise in a Nutshell and Norway’s Figurteatret i Nordland’s Ragnarok isn’t that hard to imagine: the situation in Gaza, climate change, deforestation, pollution, hunger, make it all depressingly familiar. Taking inspiration from the catastrophic Norse end of days myth, we come to the story with our young heroes (a brother and sister), three years on and knee-deep in an end of the world scenario. Odin’s ravens Hugin and Munin communicate with our young heroine and the Celtic W ..read more
