I am isolating fungi penicillium and alternaria but No matter for how long I leave the uv on or spray ethanol, wear gloves, heat my loop wires, it always seems to have contamination and I can't seem to get my sub culture or pure culture out because of this issue Btw I am trying to get subculture/ pure culture ? thru streaking method

I'm about to graduate from my undergrad program and honestly I'm so burnout. I had originally planned to apply to a masters degree program after I graduated , my parents are super adamant about me at least getting a MS. and it seems like all my friends are dead set on getting MS , PhD or attending professional programs after graduation (PA, MD, Pharmacy school). I keep thinking it over and over again but my heart isn't in it anymore. Is there anyone who is doing just fine with a BS in this field. OR should I take a gap year or two and pursue a MS?

I am looking to apply for some jobs to live comfortably and in a big city. I really don’t want a low salary but I do love research and don’t have much research experience. I’ve been an MLT for over three years and am doing a research internship now. Also will be half way done with my masters in July. I have 5 years enlisted AD Army as well and do not want a 40K job. I’m looking at some orise post bac fellowships that seem interesting, specifically the phagetherapy for VRE or monoclonal antibodies for the Marburg virus positions. Any advice on how to make money in this field? It is so importan ..read more

We’re doing lab finals in my Micro class, and I accidentally spilled some of the bacteria broth - twice. It was either S aureus, S epi, or M luteus. It got on the desk surface, my papers, and my gloves. I changed gloves and washed my hands, wiped the surface with disinfectant, and threw out the papers. I didn’t tell the teacher because he was not in the room when it happened and I was afraid to leave it too long. I’m panicking now, though. Are chances high at all that this will actually make me sick?

Hello fellow researchers. This is a micro photograph of a cell. In this picture a crosssection of a mycobacterium and surrounding organelles of a macrophage is depicted. In the bottom part of the picture a phagolysosome with darker contents is depicted. I will provide the original image in the comments. We have an argue about the position of the bacteria with my fellow postdoc, we are both cell biologists thus we lack deep knowledge about bacteria. We are not sure if the bacteria is located inside the phagolysosome or is it separated from it with some kind of membrane, so I ask for you opini ..read more
