In November, 2018, DMDP officially turned over ownership of the Central Media Making Laboratory to the University of Health Sciences. DMDP staff have taken part in two workshops in Laos sponsored by Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Biological Threat Reduction Program to help doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, and health personnel to recognize and manage meliondosis, an endemic disease caused by the the bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei.
