I am a 18M. I have been an engineering enthusiast since i was 13 and kept making projects. Now that I am 18 i have realised that there is very less salary given to Developers in India. On the other hand the salary given to merchant navy is quiet good so i was preferring it for a while. Had to talk with my cousin a few days before and he changed my mind like how its only made for nomands and how i have been doing these project stuffs. Now that i see, if i join navy ill be spending a lot of time, almost half of my work-life on board. Which is the main thing stopping me from joining it. But my g ..read more

The more successful you are, the harder things get?

Does anyone else here feel like the more success and/or privilege you get the harder things become? More people get jealous, envious, resentful, you have to dodge haters at every turn, you have to deal with people severely disliking you. The number of people who actually like you dwindles to just a few. Years ago when I was just starting out in life no one saw me as a threat. Suddenly the more attractive you become, more rich, more career accomplishments, people start becoming sketchy to you. Instead of waking up and saying "how am I going to start my day" you wake up and say "how am I going ..read more

So I currently work as an exterminator and make after nearly 6 years about 33k up from 30k where I first started. I had to sign a non compete clause so I don't think I'm able to work at another company for at least a year after I leave. I am in the exact same position I was when I started with no chance to advance. I have been starting to look into programming or coding courses to learn to hopefully find a better job but also looking into a welding training course to try to essentially start over. Is there anyother place I should look at stepping away from my job for a year or so or take onli ..read more

Struggling with choosing medical career. Any advice?

So my original plan was to practice psychiatry but realized the amount of time and money it would take so decided out of it. Then I thought about PA but I am also doubtful about that. A new idea I had was to become an LVN and either stick with it or use it to transition in becoming an RN. What I could also do right now is switch to a BSN program in Texas A&M and that would be a straighter route to become an RN. Another option is to switch my major to biology and graduate with that and do the LVN program after. Very confused on career choices right now, but I know I want something in the m ..read more

I have ADHD and love the humanities. What are jobs and careers that I might find satisfaction in?

So I realize this is very vague and I'm mostly just brainstorming right now. I'm really open to whatever ideas and suggestions people might have in any way. Even if it's not about specific suggestions for a career, all advice is helpful right now. I am a 39m, I have two bachelor's degrees. One in business administration and the other in the arts (social/cultural anthropology). Studying anthropology is probably the thing that fascinated me the most in life but pursuing a career in the academy has very few opportunities. I have had about 45 jobs in my life.. mostly retail and customer service b ..read more

What are some effective ways to network and build connections as a Freelance Copywriter?

I recently started freelancing after a stint at an agency. I've connected with some past colleagues and found a few online freelance communities, but I'm looking to expand my network and target clients in the tech industry (my niche). The question is: While traditional networking events can be valuable, what are some creative and effective ways to build connections with potential clients and collaborators in the tech sector specifically? For example: I was thinking of attending industry conferences or meetups focused on tech startups. Would reaching out to tech bloggers or content creators to ..read more

So currently I am getting no satisfaction from my job, I work in a somewhat healthcare related field and I know this might sound bad but I get no fulfillment from it. I spend every day bummed and lamenting the fact I am not doing something more intune with my interests, working in a field I love, spending each day doing something I find meaningful. The trouble is, everything I am interested in either has no real career related to it, or any jobs related to it are very low paying jobs.. For instance I love kayaking and being on the water, if I could be a instructor, or work at a paddlesports s ..read more

I am located in Ontario, Canada. I was terminated due to a lack of work. However, my record of employment states I was terminated during probation. I spoke to HR about this and they said because I was terminated during probation, even though it was due to a lack of work, they are leaving it as terminated during probation. I am worried this could give the implication something bad happened. Should I be worried? submitted by /u/Dry_Concentrate_3593 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Im a senior property supervisor for a PM company that just employed me 6 months ago. Prior to this I was with my employer 12+ years. In the last 6 months they fired 3 employees that were long term with no reason or notice after telling everyone in team meeting show great we all are doing. In our meeting to let us know of these lay offs, they said it’s due to “down sizing but promised the company is still strong”. The reason they kept me is because of my exceptional skills and ability to retain clients. I’m high performing and close to perfect and I’m always praised for it by my coworkers and ..read more

I have a question as I am fairly new to the corporate world and have not much experience (about 2 years). Background: I’m a 26 y/o bm working in accounting that made a pivot from working in college basketball for most of my “working” life. My question is: how long should I stay at my current company? My title is Accounting Manager (soon to be Controller). I have been here for ~4 months, but I work small/mid sized company within a dying industry (authentic leather). After being here for 4 months, I’ve realized that this place is operating paycheck to paycheck and there is no real stability wit ..read more
