Feeling stuck at work - what do I do?

Hi all - I am feeling super unmotivated at my current job. I've been here for five years now and while it's stable and I should be grateful - I absolutely dread it. I am doing mind-numbing tasks and finish most of my work in less than an hour. I consistently get good reviews but I need to get out before I lose my mind. I have a Master's degree and I'm doing work that probably doesn't even need a Bachelor's in reality. I'm 38 and have been applying to so many jobs with no reply. I find myself taking days off and making excuses to leave early but there's only so much of this I can do. To top it ..read more

Is pursuing Computer science better or aviation in the coming years? Which career option will be more promising? Recently i see people getting more into cs but most of the time they are just bunch of clueless students who has no actual interest and gets into cs in UNIVERSITY. That's why i feel it's getting overpopulated and getting jobs will be harder and I don't also like common careers. submitted by /u/Double_dealing [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do you deal with a boss that you hate?

My supervisors boss is a difficult person to deal with, and I think I'm just not good at dealing with him. There was a small situation at work where I was overseeing a project and minor mistake occurred, it technically wasn't even a mistake because we have systems in place to catch something like that before it becomes a problem, but my supervisors boss (let's call him F) got it involved and picked up the mistake before we could catch it. Next thing he's chewing me out in front of my supervisor and being very hostile in general (threatening me with a disciplinary hearing). Anyway I brushed it ..read more

What to say when resigning without another job lined up?

I have been working at a job for the last few years which is extremely stressful. Given that, I have been contemplating quitting for a while now, and have been applying to other jobs so far without success (I work in a professional field, but in a niche area that I have been trying to move into something broader). After a period where for a number of reasons, no one was able to receive any raises, we were told that we would finally be getting some. We did and to say they were far below what we expected is an understatement. because of the inability to give raises, I was making far below colle ..read more

Hi everyone, I (27F) have been working for a company for the past 2 years, and I'm in need of some advice. Over the last 5 months, I've gone from consistently exceeding expectations to being threatened with a "does not meet expectations" review which will lead to being let go. I just want to make It known that this all came out of nowhere. My management has always discussed how amazing I was doing. Initially, my managers tried to get me to admit that that I was not be a good fit and did not like my job. They also tried to encourage me to consider other options within the company or elsewhere ..read more

I am too much of a people pleaser and I want to change it. What are some strategies?

I try to please people. It's just in my nature. I am too agreeable to the point where someone who's worked with me said that I am "pushover". Recently, I went up to someone one rank above me and I said "Hi Nick, ...." and he said "I can't talk to you right now" and it made me suffer anxiety for two full days and I am still thinking about it. I hate that he's looking down on me and I was expecting something more like "I am sorry, can we talk another time" instead of a curt "I can't talk to you right now". The key thing was that I tried to please him and I shouldn't. I should just do my job. s ..read more

This post is for my partner. Their boss is on FMLA and will be returning in a few weeks. The boss happens to be the leader of the group. I should clarify this is in the education field. They are technically under a "contract" for the lane they are in and the union they are with is going through a lot of negotiations. They are officially part of a well known union. From what I've heard (and I trust my partner), work is good. They've made a big positive wave recently to reach an impacted group of learners that others had difficulty connecting and teaching and have been able to help bring them t ..read more

Does being physically fit truly equate to being a good salesman?

My brother, mom and dad, and uncle are all in sales and they have all been successful. I want to get into sales because of the potential financial success. Trouble is I am fat and have lost all my confidence due to some mental struggles since 2021, and worst of all I am socially disconnected. I have been running to lose weight and lifting weights to build muscle, and have been doing so for the past three months and have seen some results and plan to keep going. I have been watching a lot of Andy Elliot and he says you have to look good to sell good. I am hoping when I am more fit I can gain m ..read more

I studied film and VFX. I learned a bunch of skills that are useful in other areas. Visual effects, 3d modeling, photography, cinematography, motion graphics, editing, etc. I been doing this kind of work since the late 1990’s. I have a masters degree, 20+ years of experience, and 16+ professional/paid experience. I’m very good at my job, and I’ve always gotten along very well with my co-workers and supervisors. The last job I took was supervising a VFX department on a $100+ million movie that you probably saw. The idea was to move to LA after I had some good experience, and continue work ther ..read more
