I'm not sure if that works this way.
I'm not sure whether that works this way.
Which one is grammatically correct? I believe it is #2 because usually 'if' and 'then' should occur together, but it doesn't happen in #1.

I currently can't sleep as I am thinking of the word/term to describe the words between a comma or parenthesis in a sentence.
For example, the phrase "not that I am willing to die for the cause" in this sentence:
"I refuse to believe, not that I am willing to die for the cause, that I will be someone important in the future."
I tried googling it, and saw parenthetical expressions. However, I am looking for another term for it. I can't stop but think that the term I am looking for has something to do with stopping a thought.
Thanks, everyone!

The sentence I currently have mentions two people. We'll just call them A and B. Currently it looks like this:
A and B would approve.
The only problem is that Person A is dead and Person B is alive! So if I were just talking about Person A, I'd say:
A would have approved
But I can't say that when B is also referenced because the use of the past tense makes no sense!
And I know what you're thinking! I can still say...
A and B would approve
... because I if I were once again only talking about Person A, then...
A would approve
... would still work perfectly fine. Except I don't think I can! Bec ..read more

This is an email to my english teacher. It's obviously not my native language and it would be extremly awkward to make grammatical errors here. It's mostly the second half of the mail that I'm concerned with
"Due to my work schedule (I get home from my sunday shifts at around 1.30 am) and very minor health issues (resulting in insomnia and lack of energy), it is difficult for me to attend the classes early on the monday morning. I know it is rather late for such requests, but could I switch my group to one which would accomodate these issues?"
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
I'm considering the sentence below. The comma feels off to me, but I don't know how to articulate why.
Or maybe my intuition if off. Would love any feedback here.
"Tell us about a time when you tried to teach something new, and things didn’t go as planned."

What word would you use for someone who is consistently providing exceptionally good work in their genre of music/work field. So if I wanted to praise an artist, what fits best in this statement. Mahalia is so ..... in the R&B genre. Proficient? talented? I can't really find something that really hits the nail on the head for what I'm trying to say.

I am writing a song and have started working on the lyrics.
I showed my friend who told me the text wasn't grammatically correct. He said something about there being some mixed tenses etc.
I on the other hand am convinced it works, but English isn't my first language so I could be wrong.
What are your thoughts? Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you!
Lyrics:
"How do you know what is real, When you don't know how to feel?
How do you know what to say, When words just get in the way?
Why do I think that i do when I don't? Why do I say that i will when I won't?
Why when they ask if I'm doing ok ..read more

Even as right-wing Republicans have sought to ratchet up pressure on their speaker, Mr. Johnson has continued to search for a way to win the votes to push through a Ukraine aid. He is battling not only stiff resistance to the idea among House Republicans, but also mounting opposition among Democrats to sending unfettered military aid to Israel given the soaring civilian death toll and humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.
