Should i learn biochemistry

I am fascinated by the chemical processes that happen in living organisms like when a living organism eats something and food is converted into needed chemicals like hormones, fat, etc. I might sound silly asking this but is biochemistry something that would fit my criteria? submitted by /u/OrdinarySerious372 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Biochem access course

hello, i am considering doing a biochem online course. this is just one year so i can get into a university. I know online courses suck, but I live rurally, can't drive, and the only STEM access courses are 2+ hr bus rides away. I live with parents and am a disabled NEET lol, so not enough money to move out rly. is this gonna suck? i know ill be missing out on labs. I have self studied decent chunks of it, but my workpace has been sorta slow tbh, largely due to having zero structure at all. I know online courses are unstructured too, but I can focus deeply for long periods of time now etc, al ..read more

Paper making- educating bioremediation

I’m an artist, never took any advanced chem/biology beyond highschool. Recently I’ve been playing around with recycling paper into handmade products and considered the potential of selling locally in my town (very old craftsy folk, they’d go crazy). Unfortunately I’m a sustainability advocate and I know recycling often is worse in so many ways. I’ve been doing some research on bioremediation of waste dumping, heavy metals (which is more concentrated in recycled paper waste and product), and some fun learning on ph and soil composition and all that fun stuff. My end goal here is to have a smal ..read more

Is there an easy way (apart from running an actual experiment) to identify if a PTM reader protein will bind to a post translational modification?

So I have this class which is a chromatin research proposal writing class each person has to write basically a grant by the end of the semester, and I chose to write my grant on the novel histone post translational modification serotonylayion (H3Q5ser). My first specific aim is to identify the post-translational modification reader proteins of that H3Q5ser modification but I am stumped on how to narrow down or find which proteins to propose to run experiments on to test if they do actually recognize that mark. There is already a paper demonstrating that WDR5 is a reader of that modification ..read more

Hello! I just finished my last presentation for my biochemistry and molecular biology degree! I'm so happy that I'm finally done! But now I'm not sure what to do.. I originally wanted to go to med school but unfortunately there was 2 years in my undergrad which absolutely tanked my GPA. So I'm now looking to use my degree in some sort of healthcare area, hopefully med lab assistant as I do not have the med lab technician certificate. And I'm also looking to do a post bacc to help increase my GPA so hopefully I'll be able to start applying next year. I'm having some difficulty finding a job wh ..read more

Hi, I would like to buy a very small quantity of inosine monophosphate disodium salt online but I have some trouble. Most website won't supply individuals or have crazy shipping fees because I live in Canada. Does anybody know a website? I am new to this and can't find anything. submitted by /u/jobobai [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I still am likely to get an A but I just didn't enjoy gen chem 2 very much. Did anybody else dislike gen chem 2 but still go on to love biochemistry? submitted by /u/LeenSauce [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Biochemistry: US or the UK

I'm a highschool student that has applied to universities in the UK and US for biochemistry. I'm still stuck between deciding which country is best to pursue my studies. Currently, my top choice In the US is UCSD and in the UK is Kings. Is it better to pursue my course in the US or UK? I'm also thinking long term in the sense about getting a job, pursuing masters, and the work-life balance in both countries (although most of this kicks in after I graduate which is 3/4 years and a lot of things could change!) Please let me know your thoughts :) submitted by /u/sonderrsonn [visit reddit] [comm ..read more
