Mug hanging display for my wife, made with black walnut and zebrawood. Finished with tung oil, then a few coats of wipe-on poly. No fancy joinery, just dowels and 23ga pins to hold the rails to the stiles. Zebrawood boards are attached on the back with small mending plates, and I left a playing card thickness gap between each board to hopefully avoid any wood movement issues. Shelf is screwed into the cabinet with hidden fasteners behind the hooks. Even though a few things aren't perfect, I'm immensely happy with this as my first major project that lives inside the house. The wood is a mix of maple, cherry, walnut, oak, with some cedar and other things mixed in. And some random dowels also. I was pretty excited to get all of this for 20 bucks. I do a lot of small miscellaneous projects so I think I can use most of it. submitted by /u/VladStark [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I was going for a “1950’s cabinet meets a diy furniture flipper mom” type of vibe. It is from poplar, the colour I painted is called Persian Cat. The mouldings were done with a moulding plane. The hardware was from a clearance bucket in lee valley. Totally maybe 170 in materials including paint because I got the poplar at Home Depot. Took me 3 days, a couple hours each day after school. submitted by /u/Hingehorst [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
