I was compensated for my time and was not required to post a positive review of this product. As a busy mama of 4 school age kiddos there are times when I feel overwhelmed and just need a little extra help. Certain subjects get left behind at times and the kids have little learning gaps. In comes Loony Learn; a creative, game-based, educational program that provides extra practice in both math and spelling. In just a few minutes a day on the iPad my kiddos were able to quickly com ..read more

Wondering How to Start Homeschooling?

Things are crazy out there with school closures and so much uncertainty. I know it may seem crazy, but I want you to know that YOU CAN HOMESCHOOL. And it can look like whatever you want it to look like. There are so many ways to homeschool; Classical, Traditional, Charlotte Mason, or Unschooling, just to name a few. It will feel like a giant leap for those of you who have been in traditional school, but it is so doable. Yes, even if you’re working, yes, even if you’re a single parent, yes, even if you have special needs children. It is accomplishable. As I’m sure you’ve already realized with o ..read more

Celebrate Independence Day – Making the 4th of July Meaningful
Homeschool Evangelist

I love a good celebration. Any excuse to get together to eat great food in good company thrills my heart. Holidays are one of my favorites, but in the past I have often left a delicious eating experience feeling like I couldn’t remember why we’d come together. This year I have worked hard to bring meaning to the holidays at our house and establish a few traditions to help us remember why we are coming together to celebrate. Here is what we will be doing to celebrate Indepence Day this year:  On the day of the 4th, as we gather with family and friends, I am excited to be following thi ..read more

A Light-hearted Read-Aloud for the Whole Family
Homeschool Evangelist

First of all, the last chapter of this book falls on Christmas day, so it’s the perfect lead up to Christmas. Reading-aloud on quiet, rainy, December evenings is the best. Go pick up a copy and start reading today. Sometimes, we run across a book (or a series) that just fits; that seems to be just the right thing at the right time.  This past summer and fall we spent fixing and selling our old house, buying a new house on property and moving. Then, just as we moved into our new house the power company decided to turn off our power for a few days. The kids and I were huddled by the fire, drawin ..read more

How to Prepare our Hearts for the Coming School Year
Homeschool Evangelist

I’m an overachiever. No, not type A. Just one of those people who always thinks they can do ten times more than they actually can. Especially in my homeschool, I tend to make big plans based on what we didn’t get accomplished last year (*sigh*) and what I hope to prepare them for next year. In doing that, it’s easy for me to fall flat on my face and feel like a failure.  First, I need to take care of me before all else. I must make time in my schedule for myself before the children. If I don’t take care of me I won’t be able to care for their needs properly. My number one scheduling priority i ..read more

“Outside, the priarie reached out and touched the places where the sky came down.” Excited about the prospect of a new mother, but also afraid of who she will be, Caleb and Anna waited impatiently for Sarah to arrive. Dealing with loss is tough for everyone, but especially children. After their mother dies, Caleb and Anna, feel lost and alone on the prairie with only their father for company. After some time, their father decides to send for a mail order bride and Sarah (and her cat, Seal), who describes herself as “plain and tall” steps into the picture. That’s when the family begins to explo ..read more

A “Foreign Devil” Comes Home: the Life of Beloved Author Jean Fritz
Homeschool Evangelist
by CharityMarshall

We have been long-time fans of author Jean Fritz and her delightful American history books, full of facts, humor and wit. Thus, I was delighted when I chanced upon this book written in a fictional style about her early life growing up in China. Growing up as a foreigner in China wasn’t easy. Having been born in China she knew nothing different, but oh, how she long to go “home” to America. Her grandmother wrote long letters to her about life in America and all it’s goodness. Feeling like a misfit in the British school and being a bit of a prankster Jean refused to sing the British National Ant ..read more
