Retiring from the world of RVing after 28 years of living and writing about it is really difficult. My home is now a fifth wheel in the Arizona desert but without the adventure that follows movement. However, cruising past the age of 80 and still living on the road somehow seems unrealistic, so my time has come. It happens to all of us at one time or another. Fortunately, the full-time RVer has the freedom of choosing where and when to land. The RV lifestyle is evolving into a different way of life for all ages. The luxuries available right now while living on the road are stunning. The ingenu ..read more

New Option: Carsule Camping

Take a look at, in my opinion, the perfect solution for a weekend escape or a mid-week getaway: the “Carsule” pop-up cabin. The engineering seems to work for a one-person setup. Think of the Carsule as an upgrade to sleeping in your SUV or even tent camping for the solo traveler. Setting up in a parking spot at the lake or mountain overlook, or visiting your child on the college campus, this design is worth checking out. Unlike most tents that are only meant for sleeping, Carsule provides you with a “living room in the outdoors.” It offers mobility because the simple installation makes the set ..read more

Trending travels this summer includes journeys away from heat, traffic and noise, so using a base campsite makes sense. Find the perfect spot by a lake or stream in the far northern climes of our beautiful USA to beat the heat. Setup your now refined and small footprint camping rig and relax. You may even be inclined to pan for gold after following Randall Brink’s RV Prospector series in RVTravel.com. Wherever you roam, your electronics surely will follow. So, your biggest challenge this summer may be finding the right solar equipment to handle all your toys. This little beauty weighs three-f ..read more

Fresh Water If we take a look into the near future of any RV lifestyle, fresh water – finding it, using it, storing it – takes center stage. Soon potable water is expected to show up on the list of added charges in RV parks, if not already added there. The latest topic of conversation for RVers traveling to the popular southwest is the fight over water between California, Arizona, and Nevada. There is no winner in this battle. History tells us that we can exist without food for weeks, but fresh water, only days. The  United States Geological Survey tells us that “about 71 percent of the ..read more

Take a Look! Hydrogen-Fueled RV

It is important for the health of the planet to find another fuel to power our transportation, our industry and our recreational needs. Time seems to be running out before we can turn the corner on self-destruction and leave behind gasoline for good.   Right now, perhaps, it is time to give some critical thinking to a hydrogen-powered RV concept. This hydrogen concept is only on the engineering board, a useable product could be 18 months away. Not time to get too excited over this idea, but I like what I know right now. Is it more feasible than the electric-powered idea? Or perhaps just a ..read more

Hidden RV Expenses Before you walk into the RV rally or showroom, what do you really know about the RV lifestyle! The dealer or salesperson does not take the time to explain what happens when you take possession of a new (or even a used) recreational vehicle. What expenses come out of your pocket while you are traveling down the road? You are thinking—diesel or regular gas, food for the refrigerator, reservations for the next RV stop, money for tourist attractions, and maybe…spring for a GPS app. You are thinking of your favorite fishing lake, enjoying that first cold refreshment and dreamin ..read more

UFO Sightning, Really?

If you have spent a few years full-timing or even just seasonal traveling, I am sure you have tales about the many strange sights appearing in the skies along the way. Sometimes I have pulled off to the side of the road just to observe something floating or streaking across the sky. My biggest fright happened when one of our own secret invisible(almost) spy planes appeared just over my head in the night sky. It took my breath away, the noise and just seeing the flames shooting out the back. Most of the images I have seen, particularly in the desert, are too high to really identify. Sometimes ..read more

Traveling in the Freeze Zone

February is going to be freezing for most travelers in the United States. So…if your destination plans do not include Southern Arizona, here are some tips to help deal with this reality. Some commonsense tips for one night of projected freezing temps: Turn off the water at the park faucet when freezing night temps are expected. Empty the water hose. Empty the black water tank, close the valve and make sure the sewer hose is empty. If you have tank heaters, problem solved. Close the gray water tank valve. Just in case the freezing weather is unpredictable, fill up the freshwater tank and keep g ..read more

Artificial Intelligence & You

Back in May of 2022, Chuck Woodbury wrote an article in RVTravel.com that opened my eyes to our latest threat to TRUTH. He bought their first Artificial Intelligence software for use on his blog. He named it Johnny Robot. I am linking it here so you can read the article for yourself. https://www.rvtravel.com/meet-newest-writer-robot-wont-1051/ His opinion of this software echoes mine. In Woodbury’s usual approach to help his readers understand the current issue, he includes an article written 96% by Johnny Robot. Know that the knowledge he is passing on to you may seem comical but should be t ..read more

Can RV Parks Meet the Electric Vehicle Challenge?

Photo by Brett Sayles on Pexels.com The National Association of RV parks and KOA sponsored this year’s biggest annual convention in Orlando Florida. The Outdoor Hospitality Conference and Expo pulled RV park owners from all over the country to discuss the elephant in the room, among other topics. Basically, how to charge customers for EV service for rigs and cars. More importantly, how can park owners provide EV service, what will it look like, and how can they collaborate with electric providers locally. ARVC, a leader in the outdoor hospitality industry, is the only national association dedi ..read more
