Reign upon rescue with injured leg RCR recently welcomed the beautiful Reign into care after a volunteer foster home messaged the Pet Rescue coordinator upon spying an injured cat in need of help under an abandoned home, seeking assistance, Thankfully, Pet Rescue was able to help and the cat was rescued and taken to a vet for assessment. Reign at the vet after his exam and diagnosis It is suspected that Reign is suffering from a bone infection from a deep bite wound from another animal. RCR values the connections we have with feral cats March 9th, 2024 was a hard day for RCR volunteers as we lost one of our own after many years. bear upon surrender Just days before Christmas, RCR learned that one of our former rescues, Bear, had been surrendered to the Regina Humane Society at 11 year of age. Her owner’s health had deteriorated and he was no longer able to care for her after many years together. We quickly arranged to pick Bear up and she was taken to one of our partner vet clinics, but we were challenged to find a foster placement for poor Bear so close to Christmas. chachi loved his cat tree Chachi has been a fan favourite since his rescue from a rural Regina area along with his mom and siblings who became known as our “Happy Days” litter. The family thrived in foster care. We were shocked when we learned poor Chachi had a Grade 6 heart murmur when we sent him to neutered. This was a first for RCR. chachi chilling! Following the recommendation of a trusted veterinary partner, Chachi was taken to see a cardiologist at a specialty clinic in Edmonton. He did great and received a positive report. frozen leroy Leroy is a sweet cat who was rescued in distress when a volunteer came across him sick and frozen with a bad upper respiratory infection. The poor fellow was so sick that he literally had mucous frozen to his nose upon rescue. leroy in his cozy bed He was taken to a vet and assessed with an upper respiratory infection and prescribed antibiotics before being placed in foster care. cibrina upon rescue It's been a tough year so far for rescues and the early onset of winter didn’t help our cause. Due to capacity limitations, cats are remaining on the street longer and that means they may need extra work when they finally into care. The recent months have been some of the hardest that RCR has ever endured with the usual increased rescue activity during kitten season compounded by the rising homelessness crisis in Regina. The number of requests for help with mamas and kittens has been unprecedented.
