Where in the alps would you travel to for a week? Western or Eastern Alps?

For context, we'll be traveling in mid-late June for one week. I've been to the Julian Alps in Slovenia as well as the Dolomites (stayed in Val Gardena) and absolutely loved both. Since we do most of our hiking/climbing in the North Cascades, the accessibility is incredible (love all the mountain huts) but there were also plenty of opportunities for adventures to escape the crowds. My partner is interested in checking out the Western alps (Valle D'Aosta), but I'm feeling drawn back to the jagged peaks of the Dolomites ;) Has anyone been to Valle D'Aosta and have any thoughts on how it compare ..read more

Mammoth Lakes or Lake Tahoe Not sure if this is the right sub to be writing this. (Please let me know if not and which is suitable as I can’t find anything) Thinking of doing a mid week(Monday to Friday) escape from LA early June and contemplating either Mammoth Lakes or Lake Tahoe. Both look equally as beautiful! Keen on hiking, kayaking, a occasional refreshing dip and just enjoying nature. Which do ya’ll think is the best option? submitted by /u/Just_Mix_675 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am very petite, 5'2" 95lb 22in waist, and feel like I have looked everywhere and nothing seems to fit. Any suggestions from other petite hikers? Particularly for rain pants if possible, as I need a pair for my upcoming summer job. submitted by /u/ayeitsasnek [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Last minute advice needed

I’m trying to plan some last minute hikes somewhere in Europe. I will be traveling from the USA (San Diego) the first 2 weeks in May. I’m looking for some insight on where might be the best place to go during this time of year. My travel days within this time frame are somewhat flexible and I’m able to fly last minute with flexibility due to the nature of my profession (aviation). I’d like the hikes to be on the shorter side 8-10 miles (12-16km) and I’m very interested in the Inn to Inn or City to City hikes so that Im able see as many towns and experience the culture as much as possible. I’m ..read more

Using garmin watch for hiking

Hey, so I've been a casual hiker for a while, and I'm moving to Colorado soon, so I wanna step up my hiking game. I just bought a Garmin Fenix 7 Pro to help me navigate and stay on track when I'm out there. But I've been reading online, and people are talking about importing GPX files, using multiple software to create courses, and syncing and stuff before they go hiking. That seems like a lot of work. I've been using AllTrails, and their subscription lets me download maps offline and just go, no muss, no fuss. Do you think I can just use the navigation mode on my Garmin for hiking without ha ..read more

Hello all, As a background I have been working in the world of forestry for a couple years now whether it be trails, fire, or anything under the conservation umbrella. I’m a seasonal worker so I truly feel like my level of fitness fluctuates depending on what time of the year it is. Right now I feel like it’s the middle to lower end of my spectrum. As of a few weeks ago my whole world has been shook by a simple method for hiking with strenuous weight loads up all forms of terrain from a very experienced guy I met on a wildfire assignment. And I’m really curious as to if anyone else follows an ..read more
