Why I Love this Coffee Table This is such a beautiful coffee table!  The wood grains give it such a high end appearance, and it really transforms the room.  The angles give it a little more interest and detail. But I will be honest, those angles really gave me some doubts when I was building it.  See how all the top piece don't line up?  And if you look close, the cross bracing wasn't perfect.  I almost gave up on this project.  But I pushed through and it turned out so many times better than I could have expected. Some details that could make this project even b ..read more

Designed and built by Family DIYnamic   How this Project was Built First, two frames are built using 2x2s. Cedar fence pickets are nailed or stapled to the insides of the frames.     Then 2x2s are added to the frame for the sides, and cedar fence pickets added to the insides of the sides. A bottom frame is added. A plywood lid is attached to the top.   Plan Notes The hardest part of this project was the plywood top, as it is heavy.  It could be split into two pieces to decrease the weight. This project is huge!  It can be easily sized down though! The to ..read more

Why I LOVE this Console Table I love console tables.  They add function to just about any space, tabletop surface for temporary setting things, and they can transform a space by being the foundation for decor, art and coordinated accessories. This console I particularly love because the chunky legs create a frame for styling decor and accessories. More reasons to love?  It's solid wood, so you can paint or stain different colors, and has all the texture and warmth of a wood piece.   How I Built This Console Table Here's the basic steps I took to build this coffee table.  K ..read more

Max Storage Dresser - Easy to Modify Size

Why I Built this Dresser I have a space under out stairs in our basement entryway that I wanted to add storage for extra hats, gloves, scarves, googles, and other outdoor accessories.  Because it's under the stairs, I knew I wanted a dresser that is enclosed to minimize dusting and cleaning.  And it needed to be on wheels so I can roll it out and clean under it.  And finally, it had to be the exact perfect size to fit. With a tall order like this, it's impossible to get exactly what you need.  So I decided to build my own dresser. With not a ton of space to work with, but a ..read more

Rip Jig for Circular Saw

I have a confession.  I own a tablesaw, but I dread ripping plywood. Why?  Well, part of the problem is I'm short, and wrestling up a sheet of plywood on to the tablesaw deck is very challenging.  Then trying to keep it straight, while pushing the plywood through ... it is a dreaded task. When a sheet of plywood weights 80 pounds and a saw weighs 2 pounds, what's smarter:  Moving the plywood or moving the saw? So I came up with a jig that is custom made for my circular saw foot - so now all I have to do is clamp and cut!  It cross cuts and rips with ease!   Watch ..read more

Built-In Pantry Shelving

A pantry is a must have on any house I build.  I design my kitchens to hold tools (dishes, mixing bowls, pots and pans, cutting boards, etc) and spices and coffee.  That's it. Everything else goes in the pantry.  Yes, everything.  If it regularly rotates out, it needs to be on open shelving in the pantry.  That way you don't end up with expired cans in deep drawers or moldy bread at the back of the shelf.  Or maybe worse, you can't access and inventory what you have quickly and easily. Even though this house is small, we made sure to include a pantry rig ..read more
