Thrifted pillow case to corset✨

I saw this pillow at a thrift store in Boston and was absolutely obsessed with the fabric. After sitting in my closet for a year, I finally decided to make a top out of it. I didn’t use a pattern, I just cut shapes to create each panel (which mayyy be why it’s a little off). I used boning and a black cotton fabric to line it. The back has eyelets and is laced up with brown ribbon. Although it’s a little off I’m still happy with how it turned out! submitted by /u/chelsea2-0 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Remnant busting knit top [Style Arc Alexi]

Fabric: viscose/elastane rib knit "retro stripe" 0.5m remnant. Cotton/elastane tubular ribbing for contrast bands Pattern: Style Arc Alexi as a base pretty significantly altered for style, but the neck and armscye area is the same. Style is copying the Gertie Barbie Top, and to do that I: narrowed shoulders 3.5cm, shaped the side seams in significantly for a close fit, drafted arm bands (or rather scaled the Barbie ones to suit the new length and notches), cut the turtle neck piece to be 2.5cm finished height. Hem band was just made out of what I had left of the ribbing, didn't even measu ..read more

Serger seams scrunched (more details in caption)

Hello! I am a long time sewer but have never been able to get my serger to work for me. My seams always end up scrunched and slightly rolled looking, no matter how I adjust the tensions of the upper and lower looper. I have read all the sewing blogs, watched YouTube videos, tried different fabrics, and literally have adjusted the tensions every way psosible. Should I be trying something different? I missing something? submitted by /u/Broad_Independent_99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pattern search: Corset

A few years back, I had a housefire, lost everything. Including my patterns. And that included patterns for corsets. I was very fortunate to find them, Goodwill find of all places, and now they’re all gone. Does anyone have a basic pattern for a corset? Was wanting to surprise a friend. I’m not trying to match this design, exactly, just thought it was cool. But it would be nice to have a starting point. Instead of having to lay out the segments completely from scratch. submitted by /u/redneckgymrat [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Cutting pattern from patchwork fabric
Reddit » Sewing

What I did while sewing a patchwork bag was sew the patchwork fabric from squares in a basic bag shape, and then cut the actual pattern from that. My issue was while cutting the actual pattern from it, the threads got cut and I had to resew a lot of them. Anyone have a better method? Having a hard time finding the info I’m looking for. submitted by /u/mustaird [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Batwing dress is a great beginner project.

Just wanted to share this dress I made last night from https://youtu.be/vIERbge1LP4?si=9CMb7t-oLeAFf8lG . I used thrifted scuba material ($4 for 2.5m) and it took me 1.5hours. I've been sewing for 3 weeks and am a total newbie but this was easy and feels so comfy. This dress would also make a cool, casual swimwear cover dress if you simply replace the fabric belt with an elasticaated waist. submitted by /u/Kat1900 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I love this bag I just finished. It feels miraculous to produce a bag. It came together quickly and pretty easily. Had to buy a leather punch to do the closure style I wanted, but the pattern has three closure options. There’s a super helpful sewalong from the pattern designer. Details: Haralson Bag from Noodlehead Patterns. Main body is lightweight canvas, flap is Merchant & Mills oiled cotton from my stash, and lining is a quilting cotton. Canvas & lining from Stonemountain Fabrics; oiled cotton from Modern Domestic. Zippers & some of the hardware from Wawak; leather strips ..read more
