This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Navy Federal Credit Union. All opinions are 100% mine.  When I was a kid, one of the things that made Christmas truly magical was the surprise of opening presents on Christmas morning. I couldn’t wait to wake up as early as possible to see what was inside my stocking and wrapped under the tree. While many families want to create a magical Christmas for their children, there are many who simply cannot afford it. As everything continues to get more expensive, some families will be forced to make many difficult budget decisions this holiday ..read more

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Navy Federal Credit Union. All opinions are 100% mine. Navy Federal is federally insured by NCUA. Remember back when extreme couponing was a big shtick? I’d grab my big binder, buy 5 newspapers every Sunday to clip and organize all the coupons, and then try to buy 26 tubes of toothpaste for $3. Things have changed. First of all, I have three kids and a dog. Trying to puzzle together one-off grocery deals and run to each grocery store in my local area is no longer how I want to spend my time. Second of all, most of what has a coupon isn’t som ..read more

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Navy Federal Credit Union. All opinions are 100% mine. Navy Federal is federally insured by NCUA. Preparing for an OCONUS move is a lot to process. I remember when we were preparing to leave for Okinawa years ago. Of course, there is the paperwork, medical clearance, shipping of belongings and beyond. But the hardest part for us was moving halfway around the world from our closest friends and family — our lifelines. There were so many unknowns, and it was this fear of going through a difficult life challenge and not being able to call your mo ..read more

25+ All-Time Best Military Romance Books and Novel Series
The Military Wife and Mom Blog

As a military spouse married to an Active Duty Marine for over 10 years, I know quality military romance books when I read them. In fact, looking at many of the military romance novel lists, I am shocked that they rarely contain some of the best stories written. Case in point, Rebecca Yarros is the daughter of two retired military officers and spent 20+ years as a military spouse of an Active Duty Air Force service member. (He is now a retired apache helicopter pilot.) As an author, Rebecca lived through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars while her husband was deployed — and injured! If there is an ..read more

The Military Wife and Mom Blog
by Lauren Tamm

When I seek out a military romance movie, I want to feel it in my soul. Do you relate? I don’t want a goofy, silly comedy. I want something that is palpable and leaves a movie hangover, which is why I’ve curated the best military love movies from Netflix and beyond. (If you’re looking for a good cry just skip right to the modern military movie Taking Chance and you will cry for 1 hour and 17 minutes. Not a romance but definitely soul-changing!) In addition to modern romance films, I also included a few older favorites from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. And if you’ve recently watched the 2022 hit Pu ..read more

Why Parents Struggle to Hold Boundaries and Later Feel Resentful
The Military Wife and Mom Blog

Why is it so hard to say no? Or maybe you do say no, but then later backtrack or give in. Here’s a quick example of something I’ve done in the past: I created a rule that the kids all have to put away their own laundry But sometimes…I just put it away for them. Seemed faster. Then on future laundry days, I complain and yell because the kids aren’t proficient at putting their laundry away and I’m left doing all the laundry related work. Well, it’s a vicious cycle, and I am the creator of it . We all struggle in different areas to hold our parenting boundaries. And then later, you may feel an ..read more

3 Powerful Words to Say During Any Bedtime Tantrum
The Military Wife and Mom Blog
by Lauren Tamm

My son is upstairs screaming and it’s an hour past bedtime. In between wailing, he is asserting that his legs are in severe pain (more on that in a minute). He is escalating into a serious bedtime tantrum. There are all sorts of reasons why kids start to escalate. Working with parents and families as a Language of Listening® parent coach, I can wholeheartedly say the main reason is this: Connection. And as a sub-category — missed communications related to connection. How to calm serious bedtime tantrums I’m sitting downstairs realizing that it’s time for me to intervene on a deeper level. My a ..read more
