Digitally healthy in a digital world - Digitally healthy in a digital world- Digitally healthy in a digital world - We asked ‘How can you stay healthy - and be distinctive - in today’s digital world? Six female authors discuss. For the modern-day Christian, staying ‘digitally healthy’ is vital, but the real battle is in being digitally distinctive, because what we share and how we do it, matters. Jesus said: “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?” - Matthew 3: 13 NLT “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a ..read more

What comes to mind when you think of the word ‘devote’? I picture a mum looking lovingly at her newborn baby - a person she has spent nine months growing and will now rearrange her life to love and feed and care for. Or maybe a sportswoman who schedules her time around training, her diet around nutrients and macros, and her spending on equipment and gear so that she can achieve her goals. In both cases, you’d be able to tell from looking at their lives what they are devoted to. In these verses Paul calls us to be devoted to prayer. I wonder if that’s as much a challenge for you as it is for m ..read more

As believers in Christ, we are called to live distinctively from the world around us.  Earlier in Colossians 3, Paul instructed us to throw out our worldly wardrobe: those sins which destroy our relationship with Jesus (v5) and the horrors which destroy our relationship with others (v8).  Now in verse 12, Paul commands us to clothe ourselves with our new self, Christ.  So, what does it mean to “put on the image of Christ”?  In verses 12 -17, Paul focuses on the qualities of a united and healthy church. We are to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient (v12); “ot ..read more

When we read this passage our eyes can sometimes jump to those two lists of sins we should be killing in verses 5 and 8. Maybe we mentally check them off with a pat on the back, or maybe our heart sinks as we see one, or two, or five of our biggest struggles listed. But this passage shouldn’t discourage us or lead us to congratulate ourselves - the amazing truths Paul writes about here should motivate us to live rightly, as we see all the things God has done for us, is doing for us and will do for us!  So what has happened to us? We have died and been raised with Jesus! Before we came to ..read more

“Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as Go ..read more

Whilst we love the Bible more than anything - there is also a catalogue of books out there that wonderfully capture people’s relationship with Jesus, their journey as a woman of faith, and all the twists and turns that it involves. Check out some good reads below! Women of the Word - Jen Wilkin There’s nothing that leads us to Jesus more effectively than the Word of God, which as he himself tells us bears witness about him (Jn 5:39). We need to know how to read it, how to study it and how to let it shape our lives. Women of the Word has done that for me more than any other book. Jen is entir ..read more

These last three months have been raw and gut-wrenching. The reason lies in this fact - God has been healing me. Healing my childhood trauma. For some reason, I thought, “Because God has brought this to the surface, all the pain will go away!”. One day after the other, I quickly realised that God wasn’t planning to deliver me from the fire. Meaning this wasn't going to be an overnight thing, which is definitely possible with God. Instead, He wanted me to be delivered through the fire. In this season I have experienced what being refined and purified is in order to be made whole. I have learnt ..read more

How can I be sure I’m still going as a Christian? I grew up in a Christian family, and I can’t really pinpoint when I turned to Jesus. Because of this, I struggled for a long time to know if I was really “doing it right”. What does that even mean? The Colossians were fairly new Christians, and so far in his letter Paul has been praying that they will keep going in their faith. He explains in this passage why this is so important and helps point us to how we know we are still going in our faith, too. Firstly, Paul makes it clear that we do not grow by adding anything on. The Colossians are tol ..read more
