Quilt Theory Pattern Release: Skydust Quilt
Late Night Quilter

Today I’m excited to share my pattern for Quilt Theory’s collection for fall 2017.  The pattern is called Skydust.  The big Texas sky and its breathtaking, multicolored sunsets inspired this quilt.  Almost every evening, my children and I gasp with delight as we drive through the rolling Texas hill country while the sun slowly drops in the sky.   If you know me, you also probably know that I am drawn to simple, clean lines in my quilts.  This pattern is no exception.  As a busy woman with a career and a full house, I have found that I can honor my inner compulsio ..read more

I’m thrilled to share my newest quilt from Quilt Theory Pattern Company, available online for purchase for $3. Color Crossing features an ombre rainbow in one of my favorite, go-to block designs. All you need for this pattern is 3 charm packs in your favorite colors, and the background fabric of your choice.  I used Kona Cotton in the Sunset palette, which you can purchase from amazon, right here (affiliate link). I quilted this design in a traditional orange peel, or pumpkin seed pattern. I’l be posting a video tutorial on quilting the orange peel pattern soon, so stay tuned. Our ..read more

Throw Pillows with Art Gallery Fabrics’ Letters Capsule
Late Night Quilter
by Stephanie Palmer

Art Gallery makes one of my favorite fabrics to sew with… and it happens to be a fabric that my kids love too because unlike most quilting cottons, it feels incredibly soft and luxurious. My friend Mathew (Mister Domestic) sent me some Art Gallery fabric from the new Letters capsule and gave me permission to make anything I wanted!  So I spent a couple of days this week sewing throw pillows (with simple envelope backs and french seams) to brighten up my family room. The Letters capsule is a bright, happy take on language and love. It’s quirky and light, which make ..read more

Steph’s Favorite Threads for Free Motion Quilting Pebbles
Late Night Quilter
by Stephanie Palmer

Here is some information about where to order the thread I mentioned in the video. For free motion quilting pebbles, I like to use a fine 100 weight thread that matches the fabric on the top of my quilt.  One of my favorite choices is Invisafil Thread by Wonderfil. The white color Invisafil blends in across many colors of light and bright print fabrics, and the gray or brown Invisafil blends in across darker palettes. Rail Fence Block Tutorial
Late Night Quilter

Rail Fence Block Tutorial The rail fence block is probably the easiest block ever invented.  With the right combination of fabric, it has wonderful visual interest and is very satisfying to make. You can choose to use as many strips as you’d like for your Rail Fence Block.  Just be sure to make it square (i.e., once you’ve sewn your strips together, the width and height should be the same). In its most traditional form, it has three strips. My favorite size Three-Patch Rail Fence block to make is the 6” block, because I can just use a pre-cut jelly roll!
