Just a bodybuilder looking to save money on chicken breast. Any thoughts on the frozen boxed chicken breasts? My main concerns would be if they are artificially flavored or preserved. Why do they inject them with water and sodium? submitted by /u/Rare-Elk-3988 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Raw vs cooked beef

If I have 100g of raw beef that is 230 cals 17g fat and 19g of protein then I cook it, will the macronutrients increase along with the calories at the same weight (100g) or something different? For example after it’s cooked it would be 25% more cals and macros. E.g 287.5 cals 21.25g fat 23.75 protein. submitted by /u/Fr0sty19 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pesticide free?

Hey guys, Been trying replacing my craving for sweets with Greek yogurt (Costco) with adding wild frozen blueberries, granola and honey/maple syrup. I heard wild blueberries are better with higher antioxidants (hopefully true). I've been thinking of replacing it with mixed berries (Costco) but I remembered the dirty dozen and recently I think I watched a video where someone said just because it's organic, doesn't mean it's pesticide free. Did a little Google search (not 100% reliable, I know) and turns out yes there are organic pesticides. Is there any way to get produce that are free from or ..read more

WHO classifies processed meats as a carcinogen and include canned meats in this. However, canned chicken does not contain nitrates, which I believe is what categorizes these foods as carcinogenic? Does this still hold true for canned chicken? submitted by /u/TechnologyFew7786 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi folks! I've been trying different fish oil supplements for my kids, and keep running into the same problem--high quality fish oils usually come in a form they won't easily take (eg. liquid tastes too fishy, capsules are too large, etc.). Anyone found a winner? submitted by /u/fkhorton [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Timing and source of protein

Recently, I read very often that around 1.6g/kg of protein per day is enough for most people to maximize muscle gains. It seems that if that amount is reached, the source of the proteins does not really matter (beans VS meat for example) and the timing does not matter as well (for example a lot of proteins for breakfast and much less for dinner). So my question is : if someone has to eat Xg proteins per day, and let's say that this person went to the restaurant for dinner and ate a bunch of proteins with a large steak, some sort of salad with fish as appetizer and some cheese for dessert. How do I calculate the total weight of something from the macros? Do I just add up the protein, carbs, and fats and that’s it? I’m trying to get the total weight of a little Caesar’s pizza but they don’t have the total weight or how many get served, only the macros and serving size. submitted by /u/SnooDoughnuts9618 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey there, fellow nutrition enthusiasts! I've recently stumbled upon some information about colostrum and its potential health benefits, but I also found myself pondering the ethical considerations surrounding its consumption. So, I thought I'd turn to this knowledgeable community for some insights. For those who might not be familiar, colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals, including humans, in the initial days after giving birth. It's packed with essential nutrients, antibodies, and growth factors, making it incredibly beneficial for newborns, helping to kickstart their immune syst ..read more
