We recently received a new yarn in store: Erika Knight Pure Tweed. Read on to find out more about the yarn and for some beautiful pattern suggestions!
About the yarn
Erika Knight Pure Tweed is a woollen spun yarn, this means the fibre is carded without being combed. This process offers a voluminous and airy finish to the yarn. Garments knit from woollen spun yarn tend to be hard-wearing and last a lifetime.
The colour range is complete with both neutrals as well as vivid, colourful tones. What sets this yarn apart is it’s combination of colourful and contrasting specks of un-blended colour, cr ..read more

One of my New Year’s knitting goals was to push myself out of my comfort zone more when it comes to knitting patterns. One thing on the top of my to-do list is knit something with cables. Though I understand the concept of knitting cables, I’ve never actually knit a project with them.
I’m absolutely itching to cast on a project, although I’m having trouble deciding which one. I’ve been pouring through Ravelry finding beautiful patterns to add to my make list, and thought it would be a shame for all this research to go unseen.
So I’ve compiled a ‘cosy cables’ pattern round up to not only refer ..read more

Since January we’ve welcomed a new member into our team. You may have already met Felicity if you come here on weekends, today she’ll be chatting about her latest project the Intersections Socks by Marceline Smith!
Finally I have completed my Intersections socks from 52 Weeks Of Socks, this pair have been on my needles for a while, as they constantly were getting forgotten about in project bags between knitting them in lectures, on the bus or at knit night!.
The yarn is from the La Bien Aimée and Rosa Pomar Mondim collaboration in shade “Driftwood Graffi ..read more

11 months ago my partner and I welcomed our first baby and like any expectant mother/knitter I was eager to wrap him up in lovingly hand-made knits. Here are three items that he has been wearing non-stop this winter.

Sandoval Hat by Robyn Devine
Simple Baby Booties by Dana Drauschke

Granted this is not the most original pattern choice. We’ve all seen it a thousand times online but nonetheless I do really love how simple yet stylish this design is. I wasn’t 100% decided on this specific pattern but I knew from the get-go I wanted to use ..read more

It’s coming up to that time of year when we put our woollens to the back of the closet until next autumn and bring out our summery cotton knits. However, it’s important to store our woolly knits correctly, in order to save pulling them out next chilly season to find that the pesky moths have gotten to them first.
In this blog post we’ll outline some steps to take to best protect your knits from moths.
Why Do Moths Like Wool?
Firstly, not all moths eat your knits. It is a particular breed called Tineola Bisselliella, also known as clothes moths, wool moths or webbing moths.
It’s not actually ad ..read more

There is nothing more luxurious than a pair of hand knitted socks! We love all things socks in YAK, so we thought we’d dedicate a whole blog post to them. If you want to find out a bit more about what to look for in a sock yarn, how to go about knitting them, or are looking for some pattern inspiration, then read on!
Sock Yarn
When choosing yarn for hand-knitted socks there are a few things to look out for. For socks you want something durable and hard-wearing. Due to where they are worn they receive a lot of friction from rubbing between your feet and shoes, so are more likely to wear out qui ..read more

If you’re new to the world of knitting and crocheting (perhaps you picked it up as a New Year’s resolution?!), the vast array of equipment and terminology can be daunting, and quite frankly make very little sense. In this blog post we’ll walk you through all of the knitting and crochet tools we think every newbie needs and why.
Knitting Needles / Crochet Hooks
Of course the most fundamental piece of equipment for knitting and crocheting is the needles / hook. For knitting, you need two needles whereas with crochet you only need one hook.
Knitting needles and crochet hooks come in different siz ..read more

I don’t know about you, but personally I have some bad habits when it comes to my knitting and especially when it comes to yarn! So, this year I’m setting myself some Knitting New Year’s Goals to remind myself of throughout the year and hold myself accountable.
I’m sure I’m not alone in some of these habits, hopefully some of you will be inspired to change the way you currently go about your knitting.
Yarn Stash Declutter
The first and for me the most pressing, is a yarn stash declutter. I’ve said it before in a blog post on here but I really do have enough yarn to stock a small shop..
