Last month AT Forum lost its longtime writer Barbara Goodheart, an accomplished medical writer, suddenly. Below is a remembrance written by her husband Clyde. I recently told colleagues that I missed her so much, but could not remember the last conversation (of many) that we had, because as in so many things in life, I didn’t know it would be the last. In addition to everything Clyde writes, I would need to add this anecdote. Treatment guidelines for methadone in patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) call for a low starting dose, usually not more than 40 mg, and gradual upward titration. But ever-rising opioid death rates and the dangers posed by illicit fentanyl underscore the need to help patients reach therapeutic methadone levels as quickly and safely as possible. Feb. 1, 2024: Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC, along with its wholly owned subsidiary Hikma Pharmaceuticals USA Inc., today announced that it has reached an agreement in principle to resolve the vast majority of the opioid related cases brought against the Company by U.S. states, their subdivisions, and tribal nations. On February 2, AATOD released the below. The American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) represents over 1,300 OTPs in the United States. We commend HHS / SAMHSA in releasing their final regulations, which provide guidance to OTPs. These enlightened and thoughtful regulations have been in preparation for over one year and we appreciate the fact that these regulations have been reviewed by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
