Getting some extra motivation on the run

Hey friends! It’s been awhile. At the beginning of summer, I had every intention to continue to post at least two or three times a week, but then… I don’t even know what happened. Even though every day with COVID-19 seems to drag on, it feels like there’s not much time beyond sleep and work and the normal every day shenanigans. And that seems to bleed over into other parts of life too, like running. I was super motivated earlier in the summer because I finally had a race on the calendar: St. George Marathon! But then, like every other race this year, it was canceled and there went the motivati ..read more

My favorite tips for safe summer running

It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through 2020, but also… with everything that has happened so far this year, it feels like it’s lasted an eternity. I don’t know about you, but it’s so nice to finally have summer days to get outside for a run instead of being stuck inside on the treadmill like winter/spring running. With stay-at-home and shelter-in-place still a real thing (at least up here in Minnesota), one of the ways that people are getting out is by running and just enjoying the summer sun. So, whether you are new to the running world (welcome!) or if you’ve been running fo ..read more

Marathon training during COVID-19 pandemic

I don’t know about you, but COVID-19 and the shelter-in-place put a wrench in my marathon training plans. Mostly because… all of the marathons I had one my schedule to run have been canceled! This summer, I was gearing up to run my first-ever marathon for charity. My goal was to run Grandma’s Marathon for Brave Like Gabe. Grandma’s has become my favorite summer marathon because the course is amazing and it is held in one of my favorite places — Duluth. I have had some great times on the course… from getting the SAME EXACT time as my previous marathon PR to being just seconds from getting a sub ..read more

This post is brought to you by sponsor, “Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.” All opinions are my own.  Last year was a brutal year when it came to my running… training for the 2019 Boston Marathon set the scene for the entire year, as the ice-covered trails and roads made it near impossible to enjoy a run.  The race didn’t go as I hoped, so I aimed for a PR at the Utah Valley Marathon a few weeks later. Again, my training was up and down (with more do ..read more

Why I love the idea of eating after 7 p.m.

Last week, I shared some thoughts on a new book that I’m checking out — “Always Eat After 7 PM” — and the benefits that it provides with a new eating plan. It’s all about breaking the rules of what we have ingrained in our heads… the myths that drive us to eat what we eat, when we eat it.  As I mentioned last week, I’ve tried a TON of different fad di ..read more

Must-have trail running gear

Over the past few years, I’ve started to migrate over to the trails… granted, living in the Midwest means we don’t have as crazy trails in Colorado – case in point: But we still have some beautiful areas to run! And just like trail running, I’ve found that there are some pieces of trail running gear that work better for me and my needs on the trail, so I thought I’d share them today! Shoes: Brooks Cascadia These have been my go-to-running shoes for the trails for a few years now and there’s a reason – they are the best! I have gone through a couple of different editions of the Cascadia from B ..read more

Why I’m ditching the diet rules

This post is brought to you by sponsor, “Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.” All opinions are my own.  I don’t know about you, but I feel like my life has been filled with fad diets. It was one of those things that seemed to turn into a competition with my friends as we went on diets to eat the lowest amount of calories than anyone else (seriously, not my smartest idea as a teenager).  The quest continued as I got older and settled into a desk job, and ..read more

How to survive a humid run

Summer is here in Minnesota and you know what that means… here comes the humidity! via GIPHY I run awful in two things: the humidity and the sun. So now I get to battle both. But, I’ve learned some things over the years for how to survive a humid run. Run early It’s taken me a long time to become a morning runner (and I would say that this isn’t every day even because I am not a morning person). But, those early morning runs mean that you can avoid peak humidity AND the sunshine, giving you cooler temps to get the run in. (When I lived in Austin, this meant getting up at an ungodly hour so ..read more

My 2020 reading list [an update]

So this year, my 2020 reading list included a big goal: reading 20 books (remember last year, I made it to 15 books!?). I loved the idea of 20 books in 20, just so even and fitting. To be fair, last year was the first year that I actually made my reading goal come true… after trying and failing for several years. Although, this is the first year we’ve ever had a pandemic/shelter-in-place, which means there’s lots of time for reading! I wrote a lot of book reviews last year and I know this is supposed to be a running blog (running posts coming, I promise!), so I’m going to spare you and put tog ..read more

Well, it’s been awhile.

What a better time to post than when we are in a shelter-in-place order for a pandemic! While January felt like it took forever, February was over in the blink of an eye and March was all about our honeymoon, which then evolved into the pandemic/shelter-in-place… so while I had good intentions to post my goals for the year and what’s new, I just never got around to it. But what’s a better time to get back into blogging than during a pandemic!? It still feels surreal that this is what our world is going through. That being said, we have been incredible lucky and safe staying at home. We even we ..read more
