Your health, wealth and happiness matters It has been a whole month since I closed the Too Fat to Run blog…and I have so much I want to share. I have no intention of writing more blogs on this page, but I wanted this final one to be a reminder of why I started the blog in the first place. And as I approach my 45th birthday next week, it feels like this is something really important that I want to say The photo above was taken 3 years ago, in a friends garden during the pandemic.  I was struggling.  My friend Dipti was the first adult I had spent any proper time with in weeks…o ..read more

The BIGGEST Lessons from the past 12 years
Too Fat To Run

The BIGGEST Lessons from the past decade Said no teenager ever, when thinking about their career… “When I grow up I want to become a plus size fitness blogger” lol However growing up I did want to become a writer…I just never realised this would be the way I would achieve that. My Great Uncle Les (my Nans brother) who was a journalist always used to say to me, “If you want to be a writer you have to write” Sadly he died before I launched the blog, and published my first book. He taught me though if you want something you have to put the work in. I started this blog in September 2012 aft ..read more

7 things you should know before running the London Marathon
Too Fat To Run

7 things you should know before running the London Marathon It still blows my mind that I ran a marathon. In fact I have run 6…but London is special, so special I have run it 3 times. And so as this years race approaches, I thought I would take some time to think about what I would have liked to have known with a week to go. “If London get the Games, I will run the marathon in 2012” That’s what I said to my work colleagues as we stood waiting to see if London would in fact be awarded the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games…this was back in July 2005…and my colleagues laughed. Too Fat to Run will close for good from next month
Too Fat To Run

too fat to run will close for good next month It is with much sadness that I am to announce that the Fat Girls Guide to Running Blog will close on the 1st May. This will include the Too Fat to Run Facebook Group, clothing brand, and campaigning work. And here is why… My driving value in life is that of fairness. It always has been. When I set up The Fat Girls guide to Running in 2010 after coming last in a race and finding the finish line packed up and everyone having already gone home for the day, despite being embarressed about my speed (1.18 for a 10K in case you were wondering) I mo ..read more

Patience is a virtue when it comes to changing your life How often have you used the time between Xmas and New Year to get super excited, motivated even to make some BIG changes, only to see the pressures of early January have you give up in a pit of frustration, apathy, or anger? Perhaps we need to learn to be a little gentler with ourself, maybe dare I say it learn to be more patient. We are now mid-way through January, in fact today is Blue Monday so coined because apparently it is supposed to be the day we all open our credit card bills from Xmas, give up on our New Years Resolution ..read more

How to choose the right fitness planner for you I love a planner. I love planning. What I don’t love is buying planners that are not a good fit for me…and trust me I have spent a small fortune on them. Which is why this year I decided to create my own. And in this blog I am going to share some of its features to help you decide if it is the right kind of planner for you Firstly…why even bother with a planner? Here’s why… If you fail to plan you plan to fail…some bright spark said that a few hundred years ao and they were probably right. As women we are busy, and not only that we have co ..read more

My Fitness Review for 2022
Too Fat To Run
by Julie

My fitness review of 2022 I write a review of my fitness and wellbeing shenanigans each year as a bit of a round up. To look at lessons learned, to celebrate my successes, and to highlight some of the awesome things which have happened under the umbrella of the Too Fat to Run movement. And what a whopper of a year 2022 has been, so grab a cuppa, and buckle up.  I started the year with great gusto. Not because of the whole New Year, New Me bullshit, but because I had an idea for a book that I wanted to test with my community…and I needed something to motivate me to move. The truth i ..read more

TRICK OR TREAT? How to motivate yourself for some EPIC autumn running The night is cold, the air is frosty, it’s already dark at 5pm…and the thought of putting on your runners and heading out into the ibis is just too overwhelming. OK so here’s the thing, I haven’t been running much of late, a mix of not having a goal, being focussed on other things like moving house and starting a new job…and I just haven’t felt very motivated. Add to that the fact we are going into darker, colder months, and you’d probably not be surprised if I decided to take a break until the Spring. No way Jose’ In fa ..read more

So you ran a marathon…now what?
Too Fat To Run

So you ran a marathon...now what? Congrats… you are officially a marathon runner. Your eyes opened this morning and for just a single moment you forget who you are, maybe even where you are… and most importantly you forgot what you achieved just yesterday. And then a split second later you feel a shoot of pain somewhere in your body (probably your feet), and it all comes rushing back to you. Yesterday you ran a bloody marathon.  Nothing can compare to the feeling of accomplishment you have the day after running a full marathon. However… the day after can also be filled with other emot ..read more

Is weight loss REALLY the hardest thing?
Too Fat To Run

Is weight loss REALLY the hardest thing? I have been working with plus size women for more than a decade. When I set up my blog in 2010 I had no idea that it would reach millions of women all over the world. I also didn’t realise that my views and opinions about my body would evolve so much… When I started the blog I was still very much in diet mentality…counting calories, dabbling in well known diet plans. I used running to manage my weight…and to some extent it worked. When I ran my first marathon in 2012 I was at my smallest and lightest (I also happened to be pregnant and didn’t know i ..read more
