Hi everyone, I'm one of the co-founders of Forbidden Origins, a publisher of books, comics, and graphic novels. We have been at this for about three years now, with our debut novel being 'The Old Universe'. I was wondering if anyone on here could provide me with some insight on: 1: As a publishing company that was started on publishing books, comics, and graphic novels, we have begun to branch more into becoming a Multi-Media company. We have plans for video games, board games, toys, and apparel down the line. With all that being said, are there any investors that invest in multi-media compan ..read more

VCs. What do they want from me?
Reddit » Startups

I have recently concluded my idea about my startup, created a very high-level mock-up version of how the web app will look like, put everything on a presentation and sent out many funding applications. Fast forward a couple of weeks and some VCs are reaching out asking what is my valuation and my equity share. I have no clue about valuations, etc. Like, what can be a valuation for an idea, a bunch of PDF slides and a jpg mock-up? Lol Any help on how to navigate this type of questions? submitted by /u/vgkln_86 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How real is seeding your landing page for long tail keyword searching?
Reddit » Startups

Im reading this article on seo where they mention creating a webpage for every keyword longtail key (eg "productivity/college/medical-students" for the "Productivity for Medical Students") relating to your product. In this case, some productivity tool that med students might use, but others might want it to, so you make "productivity/research/phds" or something.. If we were to steel man this advice to get the most out of it, one would adopt the mindset of how people search your app and then make content/features that are those keywords. This way, you focus on creating value in the ways people ..read more

Have a pretty good relationship with a VC where I think they generally like us and seemed close to termsheet- they've now asked if they can share our deck with other investors. Why would they do this if it fits their investing stage and focus? Does it mean it's a pass? submitted by /u/irojo5 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do I validate an idea (looking for previous experiences rather than theory)

Hello everyone. So I have a startup idea in mind. An e-commerce and fulfilment for printables (stickers, posters, art, ....etc.). The idea is basically the platform handling the fulfilment of the orders (printing, shipping, returns, customer complaints, ...etc.). Think of this as a version of etsy where the artist only have to worry about the art and not the logistics. With the basic premise out of the way, I want to do market studies and feasibility studies for the project. I run my own web agency so that part is more or less under control but I need to figure out the rest (competition, cost ..read more

Best degree for building/managing startups if I already know programming?

17M here, been programming all day for several years now and I'm fairly good at it. I'm fairly passionate about building things and I MUST go to a university because of some weird law in my country. I don't need the "CS fundamentals" to learn new things fast or whatever, I can pick most languages up in a day or two. I build things that ship to prod. I know what I'm doing basically and I move way, way faster than your average learner. I'm extremely good at self-learning. So perhaps it would be better to learn something that has limited availability on the internet (if such a thing exists). So ..read more
