Old enough that it is starting to have legacy problems. The RSS feed stopped working over a year ago and I haven’t been able to fix it. 2018 was a…year for anime, I’ll say that much. There was a lot of anime I did quite like, especially comedy anime for which it turned out to be a bumper year. It ended up being quite difficult to round out my top 10 and I ended up dropping anime I genuinely enjoyed off my list like Hero Academia S3 or Grand Blue Dreaming. But at the top end of the pile it was a rather forgettable year for the 9/10, 10/10, all time favourite anime list. Look at that poster. That is a fucking amazing poster. I came back from Japan a few weeks ago and after strolling around a bunch of bookshops, something I hadn’t realised was just how huge the Tanya the Evil novels actually are compared to all the other light novels. I, like many others, have been enjoying the mini-hit of the summer season that has been Cells at Work. It’s fun and good-natured, using ridiculous anime tropes to explain the inner workings of your body. Red blood cells needing glucose to function being translated as them wanting to eat cakes a lot. Tiny platelets cells who block blood flow to allow your body to repair from cuts being cute little kids with buckets and spades. As you can see, I have only been watching the good stuff, namely Gobdwarf.  In the past few months I’ve moved countries, changed career, started a new job, unpacked an entire home, and generally had a lot happen. I don’t watch quite as much anime nowadays as I used to. Just a natural part of getting older and not having as much free time. I can barely keep up with what’s currently airing, forget going back to older anime. Which is why this season is going to destroy me because my watchlist is at least 10 shows long already with so few candidates for the drop pile.
