Limerick Regatta Committee will host both the Limerick Regatta and the Schools Regatta this weekend at O’Briensbridge, Co. Clare. The regatta committee wants to make attendees aware that there is very limited parking available at the venue and in the local area. Last week, the participants of the Women in Coaching Pathway took part in a co-coaching session with Rowing Ireland’s high-performance coaches at the National Rowing Centre. Two medals are coming home to Ireland as racing finishes up here on Lago di Varese. Fiona Murtagh and Airfic Keogh are taking home the silver medals for the Women’s Pair. Day two finishes up in Italy, and we’ll see four crews from Ireland race for medals tomorrow in the A Finals. As a consequence of hosting the Schools Regatta this year, Limerick Regatta has had an unprecedentedly large entry. Initial timetabling resulted in racing commencing at 9:00 and finishing at 1:00 the following morning. As a result, the Committee have had to consider how to reduce the regatta to a manageable length. This weekends racing for Skibbereen Regatta and the University Championships in the National Rowing Centre will not go ahead. Unfortunately due to the unpredictable weather conditions, particularly the wind forecast for the weekend we have had to make the very difficult decision of postponing the event in the interest of safety and providing good racing conditions.
