Chickpea Group, headquartered in Wiltshire, has acquired its first pub in Somerset, expanding its portfolio of country pubs with rooms. The Manor House, nestled in the village of Ditcheat near Bruton, boasts “historical charm” and scenic views of the Mendip Hills. Half-term staycations help boost hotel sector in Feb

Demand for UK hotels started to pick up in February, boosted by half-term holiday staycations, according to the RSM Hotels Tracker. The data, which is compiled and produced by Hotstats and analysed by RSM UK, shows occupancy jumped to 71.4% in the UK and 73.2% in London last month; up from 68% and 68.2% respectively in February 2022, and exceeding pre-pandemic levels of 70.4% (UK) and 70.5% (London). Average daily rates (ADR) of occupied rooms increased slightly to £127.19 in the UK and £188.15 in London last month. Over half (56%) of UK holidaymakers say they are likely to choose staycations above holidays abroad for climate-related reasons, according to data from Mintel. Around three in ten (28%) UK holidaymakers say warmer UK temperatures are encouraging them to take domestic holidays. Meanwhile, nearly a fifth (19%) of them say extreme weather events abroad such as heat waves or flooding are encouraging them to holiday at home. Fishmore Hall, a 15-bedroom hotel in Ludlow, Shropshire has been sold to a private Midlands-based buyer with experience in the hotel industry for an undisclosed sum. The Lindner Hotel Group (LHG) has announced it has taken over the operation of five hotels previously managed by the 12.18. Group after the two companies agreed to merge hotel operations. LHG’s portfolio will grow from two to four brands, while 12.18. will focus on real estate activities.
