You’ll notice though that the new leadership roles that take effect on June 30, 2024 use fewer nonsense words than the current ones. Current: New: So that’s nice. What else? Paul also announced that PwC US is aligning its organi ..read more

Ever since the news broke in early 2023 that a PwC Australia partner brought confidential government tax changes back to the firm for the purposes of monetizing it for corporate tax avoidance, the firm has been struggling to crawl out from under the garbage heap of a scandal. Which is whatever, every Big 4 firm has taken reputational damage on the chin and kept truckin’. But for Big 4 firms in Australia, the fatuous actions of their competitors at PwC have brought unwanted scrutiny and a stain on all of them that isn’t washing off any time soon. Getting called out by senators in parliamentary ..read more

h/t to the tipster who sent this over and also totally made my day. I only wish this story hadn’t come out on the same day we already published a Trump-adjacent article. Also warning: this is long. ChatGPT TLDR summary: The Supreme Court is debating whether Capitol rioters can be charged with Sarbanes-Oxley violations for obstructing Congress during the January 6 riot. The debate centers on whether the law applies to rioters and the meaning of “corruptly.” Some argue it’s selective prosecution, while others see it as fitting within the law’s catchall language. There’s criticism that prosecutor ..read more

Over the past week or so, various media outlets have been picking on Trump Media auditor BF Borgers and their 100% PCAOB deficiency rate. See: Trump Media’s accounting firm has a 100% deficiency rate from U.S. audit watchdog and counts Lingerie Fighting Championships as a client [Fortune] OK, actually that’s the only funny headline we’ve seen. And this one from FT is most informative: The accounting firm picked to audit Donald Trump’s social media venture has had repeated run-ins with regulators and faced criticism for its failure to live up to professional standards in the US and Canada, acc ..read more

This morning, Vault released its mildly anticipated 2025 Best Accounting Firms to Work For list and it should be no surprise that PwC has swept the category of Best Accounting Firm for the gazillionth year in a row. Hey and welcome to Monday, APRIL 15! You made it! Well, almost. We’re so proud of you. Now, some news. Jack Castonguay (who we miss terribly on Twitter) wrote a little something for Bloomberg Tax about the PCAOB’s latest proposal that would make traditionally secretive audit firms’ business much more public: The business model for public accounting firms is changing rapidly as they search for outside investors and private equity firms rush to the front of the line. Regulations need to change to match. In response, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board has drafted a rule that the accou ..read more

Weekend Discussion: To Ping or Not to Ping Before a Phone Call?

In a passionate rant on r/Big4 the other day, a millennial manager griped about his or her Gen Z first year associate not wanting to talk on the phone. Well, there was a bit more to it than that. I’m noticing an increasing reluctance for associates and even seniors to just pick up the damn phone… This culminated today when my first year associate told me to ask permission before calling him. I can’t possibly imagine telling my boss to request permission to call me! I no longer want this associate on my jobs. I’ve lost confidence that he can handle client conversations appropriately and frankl ..read more
