‘Oh Crap’ Monday: Get Off My Back
HORSE NATION
by DeAnn Sloan
14h ago
This horse is NOT impressed with its ground pole exercise. Monday already is the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official. Here’s our latest “oh crap” moment. Sometimes, the prospect of even a little bit of work wants to make all of us pitch a HUGE fit. Especially coming off of a weekend and facing the week ahead of us. This horse gets that. When faced with some ground poles it does NOT want to do, it gives its rider one heck of an “oh crap” moment. Fortunately, she has a great seat!   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Horses Video ..read more

SmartPak Monday Morning Feed: The Search for ‘Home’
HORSE NATION

We all know that finding the right barn is imperative for our horse’s well-being (and our sanity). Here is what one horse owner learned from her search for the barn that felt most like home. By SmartPaker Katrina Clark I started riding when I was five years old and rode at the same barn until I went to college. I essentially grew up there and almost everything I know about horses I learned from that barn. I learned so much about making sure that the horses were always safe (as safe as they can be!) – making sure snaps were facing the right direction, blankets fitted properly, halters were off ..read more

… that’s over 16,000 square feet on 180 acres. This $14.5M estate will make your jaw drop. Welcome to “The Cabin.” The name does not do this property justice. Don’t get me wrong. I love a god log cabin, but this one goes well above and beyond. This exceptionally-handcrafted Pioneer Log Home is incredible — the grandeur is evident as soon as you step inside. Get your drool bucket ready because the house and the horse facilities of this property are absolutely top-notch. A remarkable 10′ diameter Western Red Cedar greets you when you walk in and serves as the centerpiece for the foyer an ..read more

HORSE NATION

… or at least one of them. We all know this horse. Many of us own this horse. But there’s not doubt about it. When horses are getting their feet done, there’s always at least one horse that has to kick the cart… and then spook at it. Why do we have horses? This is a constant question many of us ask ourselves. Sigh… Happy Thursday, Horse Nation. Try not to upset the farrier cart ..read more

Thoroughbred Logic, Presented by Kentucky Performance Products: Hold Don’t Pull
HORSE NATION
by Aubrey Graham

“Reward the try, and as the situation arises again, ask again. The half-halt through a full-body hold, allows them to learn. Pulling takes that opportunity off the table.” Welcome to the next installment of Thoroughbred Logic. In this weekly series, Anthropologist and trainer Aubrey Graham, of Kivu Sport Horses, offers insight and training experience when it comes to working with Thoroughbreds (although much will apply to all breeds). This week ride along as Aubrey shares her logic on the importance of holding a horse, as opposed to pulling on it.  A common complaint about Thoroughbr ..read more

Because why wouldn’t she be? Presented by:   This week’s comic may actually be based on actual events and conversations that I *may* have had with The Red Dragon. ?   She apparently has a serious aversion to butterflies that has not diminished as she’s gotten older.   No issues with other bugs or flying things.   Just butterflies.   THEY ALL MUST DIE. ?   But anyway, I did enjoy doing some artwork that pays homage to both my very favorite Disney character as a child (Maleficent as a dragon — because of course she was, did you expect anything else?) and Calvin a ..read more
