Abstract Geode

While Southern California is in the midst of a heat wave, I tried to channel colder weather with a cooler color palette for these nails. These shades on their own are definitely more suited for Winter, but they somehow come together for a bright and fun nail look!  Shockingly, this was my first time trying Essie Gel Couture. I’ve seen it everywhere and heard rave reviews but I hadn’t managed to get my hands on some until recently when Essie so kindly sent me a PR package. The colors I used (in order of this photo): Daring Damsel Once Upon a Time Sheer Fantasy It-Pearl Model Clicks Asid ..read more

Butterfly Inspo

At first glance, this design might be pretty abstract – but actually it’s inspired by a butterfly! Initially the colors are what grabbed my attention. I didn’t even think to use it for a nail design until after the fact! Zoya was so kind to send me their Bridal Bliss collection, which I knew I’d want to use for the nude base. It features mostly neutral colors, and I chose Chantal as the nude shown here. On its own, I wouldn’t choose this shade to match my skin tone (its a tad too yellow/neutral), as pink-ier nudes tend to look better on me. But it was a perfect match to the butterfl ..read more

Holographic Foil

I’ve been on a holographic binge lately, so for these nails I had to try something new! I would say 99% of the time, my own nails are done with regular polish. While I love all the benefits of gel, I change my nails so often that I just don’t need to keep them on for a couple of weeks. But with that said, many clients of mine do wear gel so I need to keep my gel art game in tip top shape! A few months ago, Skyline Beauty Supply had a flash deal on the Young Nails Mission Control gel art set so I bought it to try. You can’t really do complex nail art with just any gel…unless you want to flash ..read more

The 90’s Called…

Happy 2018! December was crazy busy for me, so I’ve definitely missed doing nails. I wanted to get back into it with a fun look, and these new shades Sally Hansen sent to me were calling for a funky design! I started off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Va-Va Violet and Watermelon Wizz as my base colors. These shades are advertised as only needing one coat, and to my surprise they were completely opaque! They are thicker than most nail polishes, but since I only had used one coat it wasn’t a problem for me.  Once my base was dry (give or take a few minutes) I used a white polish (Debo ..read more

Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018

Today, Pantone announced their pick for the 2018 color of the year – Ultra Violet! By now I’m sure you’ve seen it all over social media but I just had to do some nails inspired by the color. You can read more about their color choice here, but ultimately its inspired by what lies ahead, the future, mystery, etc…so their imagery has this futuristic galaxy design. Obviously, it was an easy choice for my nails today! Galaxy nails have been around for years (like I remember doing this 6 years ago when I started), so I was excited to try this different monochromatic take on it! Typically, galaxy n ..read more

Starbucks Holiday Cup

Its that time of year again! Last year I did these nails inspired by Starbucks’ red holiday cup, so I decided to give it another go with this years design. I love how cute these cups are…and these nails gave me an excuse to go get a drink at Starbucks! Lately I’ve been using Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab Pro base and top coats. I have always been an Orly Bonder + Seche Vite combination kind of person, but when I ran out I decided I should just go through my hoards of others and try something new. I’m glad I did! The base is slightly thicker than others, but not too thick…just enough to smooth ou ..read more

Kester Black Accent

I always love trying out new brands, so I was excited to receive a package from Kester Black with some gorgeous colors. Kester Black is cruelty free, vegan, water permeable, organic…the list goes on and on! While they aren’t currently stocked in the United States, their polishes are widely available for order online. I started out with a base color of Quartz – I was first drawn to this one because its like a nude, but way more interesting. It has more of a taupe color to it with a hint of purple! For the accent nail, I used Fairy Floss for the op-art design.   ..read more

Checkered Half Moons

I love a classic half moon mani, but I also love switching it up! I’ve been on a slight hiatus from nails, getting married keeps you busy! Luckily things have all calmed down now and I’m excited to have more free time for my art. Sometimes if I want to paint my nails but I don’t know what to do, I’ll start painting my nails with a base color and hopefully something comes to me. I was drawn to this shimmery shade from my collection, Young Nails Caption “Keep Cool Under Pressure“. It is meant to be layered over other colors, but something about it on its own is so gorgeous. I then pulled a pink ..read more

China Glaze Street Regal

It’s my favorite time of year! I absolutely love when all the fall polish collections start coming out…something about the dark rich colors makes me so excited for colder weather. China Glaze sent me their fall collection, Street Regal, to check out and I love it! It has a great mix of dark typical fall colors (reds, nudes, plums) but also has some unusual colors like the ones shown here! I started with a base of Street Style Princess (grey) and Truth is Gold (gold). Once that dried I did a dry brush technique using Just a Little Embellishment (turquoise), Born to Rule (bl ..read more

For last week’s #FlashbackFriday I recreated some nails from a few years ago…it’s crazy what some practice can do! I think overall these nails aren’t too bad, but seeing all the different nail lengths and shapes drive me crazy. So if you aren’t feeling happy with how your nails look, just keep practicing…it’ll get better I promise ..read more
