Thursday’s Workwear Report: Tie-Detail Sheath Dress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. This sheath dress from London Times has a fun little tie detail that is just speaking to me. Maybe I’m feeling nostalgic for the early aughts when Carrie Bradshaw convinced us all that we needed a giant Chanel flower affixed to our tops?)  This dress would be a great basic to have on hand if your office skews more formal, and it comes in a range of colors and prints. The pictured “shaded spruce” is my favorite of the bunch, but don’t miss out on the bright “cherries jubilee” or “high-risk red ..read more

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. If you’re looking to spruce up your collection of business casual tops, Universal Standard should be one of your first stops. I’m a big fan of their “better-than-silk” collection, and this V-neck top is a stunner. I love the silky, fluid, but still machine-washable fabric, and the bright cerise color is so cheerful. Pair this with your favorite trousers for an easy office outfit or wear it with dark denim on a casual Friday.  The top is $128 and comes in sizes 00–40. It also comes in cornflower ..read more

Coffee Break: Leeza Flat

As we’ve noted before, flat Mary Jane shoes are trending this year — and I really like these options from Dansko. The company is renowned for its comfort, and I feel like these shoes actually look a bit sleeker than most Dansko offerings (which, while incredibly comfortable, I’d usually put in the “funky/fugly” category). I like the double strap, and the fact that the shoe comes in black and a pretty “ballet” pinky beige. The shoes are $130 at Zappos, Nordstrom, Amazon, and DSW. (Amazon has a slightly older model, the Dansko Lily, on sale.) Workwear sales of note for 3.26.24 Our favorites ar ..read more

Tuesday’s Workwear Report: The Kelly Blazer

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. I can’t get enough of this layered blazer from Favorite Daughter. Blazers are, historically, not the most exciting article of clothing for women, so I really perk up when I see something with even a hint of creativity. Based on the reviews, it looks like it runs a bit oversized (which I think is the whole point), so just be aware to order down a size if that’s not your preference. The blazer is $298 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes XXS–XL. It also comes in black. At Saks Fifth Avenue, it’s also avail ..read more

Coffee Break: MagSafe Charging Stand

Soon after I bought an Apple MagSafe charger (Apple/Amazon) for my iPhone, I became really annoyed because it was constantly falling off my nightstand, either when the cable got pulled accidentally, or when one of my cats knocked it off on purpose. After months of that, I finally looked for a solution. I found the highly-rated Etsy seller 3DofMind, who 3D-prints charging stands that accommodate iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods. The one I bought is designed for the iPhone’s sideways StandBy mode. It looks unobtrusive on a nightstand or desk and it does what it says on the tin. The non-slip ..read more

What are the Best Employee Benefits & Perks?

There was an interesting thread on Reddit a while ago about job perks — readers, what employee benefits and perks does your company offer, and how are you optimizing these perks? There are, after all, a TON of them out there — I was blown away compiling this list!! — and there’s a lot of money involved. In the past, we’ve discussed how many vacation days we get, and tech budgets, and (eons ago) we had a guest post from my friend Sue on how she saves $10,000 a year by maxing out her work benefits, including her flex-spending account, commuter spending account, and dependent care spending accou ..read more

Splurge Monday’s Workwear Report: Caplana Double-Breasted Cotton-Faille Shirt

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Dries Van Noten has always been one of my favorite aspirational fashion houses. When I saw that the brand’s namesake is retiring this year, I did some scrolling around online to find some favorite pieces to highlight. This double-breasted shirt is such a fun way to liven up a traditional button-up, and the maroon color is gorgeous. I would probably wear it tucked into a high-waisted skirt or trousers, like the model pictured here, but it would also look great untucked, to show off the buttons. The s ..read more

Frugal Friday’s Workwear Report: Tapered Ankle-Length Pants

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. A friend put these fantastic (and extremely well-priced) slacks on my radar recently, and I don’t know how I’ve missed them until now. They have a slightly-tapered, ankle-length fit that looks both professional and extremely comfortable. I’ll also vouch that they look much more expensive than their $19.99 price tag would suggest.  The pants are $19.99 at H&M and come in sizes 0–26. (Do note that reviews suggest they run a little small.) They also come in black, cream, beige, taupe, and gray ..read more
