Embarking on an electrification project as a Formula E manufacturer alongside Yamaha represents the ‘first pillar’ in Lola’s revival, according to its motorsport director Mark Preston. Bechtolsheimer’s goal is to bring Lola back to prominence in the motorsport industry after it ceased operations in 2012 amid financial strife. The new IndyCar season is starting in St. Petersburg this weekend, but fans will need to wait until later in the year for the much-anticipated hybrid system to arrive. The American series’ biggest technological development for several years has taken longer than expected to hit the grid, but when it does it will make IndyCar the first oval series to run with an electrified powertrain. It has been an intense and thorough route to fruition, but IndyCar is now confident that, following validation tests at the end of January with production-spec parts and software, it can deliver a safe, robust an ..read more

The opening race of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship season in Qatar saw Porsche dominate with its 963 prototype. The German manufacturer scored the first pole position and win for an LMDh car in WEC history, recorded the fastest lap by some margin and left the others literally in its dust. Australian driver Matt Campbell, recently part of the winning Porsche crews at the Daytona 24 Hours and Bathurst 12 Hour, recorded the fastest lap time in the 10-hour race of 1m39.748s. His No. 5 Porsche was the only car to break the 1m40s barrier, and went nearly a second quicker than the sister P ..read more

Mercedes, Aston Martin and Williams are the three Mercedes-powered teams on the Formula 1 grid, meaning they also use a transmission supplied by the German marque. This agreement naturally extends to components in the rear suspension, which is linked to the gearbox. For the 2024 season, which starts in Bahrain this weekend, Mercedes and its customer Aston Martin have switched to pushrod suspension at the rear, having previously operated with pull rods. McLaren has continued with pull rods on the front and pushrods on the rear. However, Williams stands as an outlier because it has stayed in the ..read more

Podium Advanced Technologies designed a substantial set of performance upgrades for the Glickenhaus 007 Pipo that ultimately never made it on to the American company’s LMH car. Images of models based on simulations, published in the latest issue of Racecar Engineering, show plans for a revised aerodynamic package that was drawn up to be ready to use in last year’s FIA World Endurance Championship. The upgrades were mainly aimed at enhancing stability under high downforce conditions, increasing airflow to the underfloor and reducing the power of the cooling system.
