Summer Reading for the Soul
La La Lovely

Summer is for taking a break. For slowing down. For socializing. For sunshine. For nurturing our souls. I understand that the realization materializes differently for each of us, in our different places and varied phases of life. Whatever stage or phase you find yourself in (full-on, old-fashioned summer break, or your normal work routine with a wee bit more sun) I implore you to be intentional about rest. I invite you to take time to listen to your soul–making time for what replenishes your soul and breaking away from what depletes it (I’ll be sharing more about this in my next post). This is changing my mornings
La La Lovely

Are you a morning person? I want to tell you that I am, but my family would tell you otherwise. I am a morning person . . . if I don’t have to interact with people first thing. My mom told me that calculation in and of itself disqualifies me from being a morning person. I’m convinced that having no caffeine intake in the wee hours stacks the cards against me being a morning lark (I like caffeine; it doesn’t like me).  A decade ago I admittedly would have identified as a night owl. These days, I wonder if there is some other flying, feathered creature that might give a name to someone who ..read more

How Well Do You Manage Stress & Overwhelm?
La La Lovely

Feeling stressed these days? It feels like a pointless question because I already know the answer. Everyone experiences stress and overwhelm. The question is how well do you handle it? In my book, I share how a visit to the E.R. and frequently breaking out in hives, brought me to a realization that I was dealing with chronic stress and anxiety. I had known that I was under extreme stress. But honestly, I didn’t know how to deal with the kind of stress and anxiety I was facing. So I didn’t. I simply tried to cope and comfort myself. This looked a lot like treating myself to a Happy Meal (the ..read more

Hello La La Lovely Friends, It’s been a hot minute! And it’s been a busy year. I’ve put all of my time and efforts into writing my new book, podcasting (learning and practicing a new form of communication) and a big out of state move (more on that here). Getting settled in a new state is no joke! But here I am. We have a long history here….you and I. I’ve loved sharing design, lovely finds and matters of the heart for nearly 14 years (woah!). A good deal of this blog is dedicated to making a beautiful home and while I’m just as passionate about beautiful design as ever . . . I had to take a ..read more

Sometimes it’s the little things that can brighten up our day, right? And far be it from me to hide the fact that a new little lipstick can bring me a good amount of joy. It can. The Secret to Moving Forward Without Clear Direction

The following is a letter that I, recently, sent to my e-mail friends. E-mail is my favorite place to write. It’s where I share what I don’t share on the internet.  Readers, always, tell me how much they love, and are encouraged, by my e-mail letters. Not getting my letters, yet?  Sign up, here, to make sure you don’t miss a (lovely) thing. Now, here’s the letter: I loved back to school shopping as a kid. Supplies were fun–especially the prospect of a new Trapper Keeper (if you don’t know what I’m talking about then you are young and you should revel in your youth), but the ba ..read more

Practicing Feelings

What are you practicing? We all practice some thing. Many things, really. I like this word “practice,” not because it is trendy; if anything that makes me slightly disinterested in using this word. I like this word because in mind’s eye (can you imagine an eye in the mind? I imagine an entire body. the world. eternity) . . . Ahem, in my mind’s eye . . . I see three things about practice (probably, more, but for practicality, I’ll stick with three). Practice / Is Revealing Fluid Spatial ____ Yesterday morning I awoke to feel the heavy greys—albeit, on a sunny, chirpy start. The grey that sits ..read more

A Thing of Comfort
La La Lovely

A Thing of Comfort. Day 32 of Shelter-in-Place. We are searching for a thing of comfort to help us through this very uncomfortable time. At least, I can tell you that I am. A thing. A “some” thing. A “one” thing. An “any” thing. The comfort of our daily routine, as we knew them, has dissipated into thin air. Unseen, floating, somewhere out there.   The comfort we may be missing is familiarity.   In my life, I’ve often confused comfort for familiarity.   When my life turned upside down, was shaken, and shifted in ways in which I didn’t see it coming, I found it to be unbearabl ..read more
