I’m delving into the world of QAYG (quilt as you go), and I’m very excited to share a QAYG tutorial using fabric strips! I’ve always wanted to try this technique and I absolutely love it! I’m sure you will too. If you’ve never tried QAYG, I think you’re in for a treat. You can go big or go small; either way, you get instant gratification after making your first block. You probably won’t be able to stop at just one! General QAYG info There are many types of quilt-as-you-go and ways to go about each of them. I don’t know the exact name for the method I’ll be showing, but let’s call it “Strip P ..read more

The one on the left is done in red and white, the middle is all polka dots in a variety of colors and the one on the right is a rainbow version (my fave). I’m maki ..read more

Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a big impact and that’s often true with quilt binding. Today, I’m going to show you how to make flanged quilt binding. It’s so easy and gives your quilt that little extra flair in the finish! Flanged quilt binding is meant to look like you added piping to the edge of the binding (without all the work). Yes, there’s an easier way to get this same effect and it looks amazing! One of the things I love most about flanged binding is that it’s completed all by machine. No hand stitching involved! Things to consider Before choosing this method of quil ..read more

I have a lot of quilting projects underway and I thought I would give you an update. Sew many projects, SEW little time! I’m sure many of you can relate. I want to do and make all the things! I’m in awe of those that only have one project going at a time. Which means there’s no UFO’s on top of that! My brain works a little differently. Here’s my scenario: I start something and then: Another project gets priority over that one, and then I find this new, great technique that I have to try, and then It’s Spring and I should make something for the entry table, and then Someone is having a baby, a ..read more

Quilt binding was the most confusing part of the quilt making process when I first started quilting. Fast forward 25 years, and I’ve learned numerous ways to tackle this step. I even made four videos for The Quilt Show all about quilt binding. These videos have been removed from their website, but I’m sharing links to them here! Not only do I have videos, I have five quilt binding tutorials with different techniques and tips that are really useful. Every quilt has different binding needs such as quilts with odd angles, quick finishes and tiny quilts (such as mug rugs). Everything you need to ..read more

I LOVE my new Valentine’s Day table runner! I used my Vintage Heart Quilt block tutorial to make this project and it adds just the right amount of sweetness to my home décor. I use table runners to decorate for every season and holiday. Valentine’s Day table runner details Each block measures 12″ square (finished). I added a 1 1/2″ border (finished) and this made the final size 15″ x 51″. It’s a nice size for rectangular dining tables, but you could also use it on a coffee table or as a bed runner. I love the variety of pinks, reds and taupe colors which give it a vintage vibe. The fabric ..read more

Hello quilters! I’m spreading some love today with this free Vintage Heart Quilt block pattern. It is so stinking cute! It checks all the boxes: scrappy, vintage, hearts, and easy. Yes, there is some applique, but you can leave that out if you’re not a fan. But you really should be a fan. I was inspired to make this quilt block when I “re-discovered” this charm pack and mini-charm pack of red, pink, and cream prints. I constructed the block to make good use of a charm pack and I used the mini charms for convenience. You can use any type of yardage, however, and it can be as scrappy as you li ..read more

A little late, but Happy New Year to you all! I hope 2024 brings you joy and peace. This is my first time back on my computer since before the holidays. I’ve been basking in family and all things Christmas. When you have a house full of children and grandkids plus trying to keep them all happy and fed with the addition of throwing a party, well you can imagine how things go. It mostly lands on my shoulders, but that’s what comes with being the family coordinator and host for the holidays. It’s safe to say that I’m looking forward to a calm and quiet January. I think our oldest daughter feels ..read more
