Casualties in the media business keep piling up. We've watched numerous games publications fall over in recent years, including some other homegrown ones here downunder. More recently in New Zealand, The Listener and Woman's Day publisher Bauer Media kicked the bucket during lockdown. Now, sadly, Gameplanet is going the same way. The current economic situation is not helping anyone. But Gameplanet has been on life-support for a while now, as some readers may have observed. We've held out and sustained the financial losses for as long as we could, but there is, sadly, no realistic prospect of ..read more

MLB The Show 20 marks another solid entry for the series. New additions to the fielding game are welcome and fans of the sport will find a wealth of systems and modes to enjoy. It may be a bit overwhelming for newcomers, but offers a great range of tutorials to get payers up to speed. There's a lot of game here, provided you enjoy the sport. While it wont make you a fan if you weren't already, it's still the best rendition of the sport you can enjoy from the comfort of the couch. It may feel like at least a few hundred sports games release each year, but each sport really only has one or two ..read more

Having blessed fans with fantastic remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, Capcom is reportedly already developing a remake to one of the most beloved entries in the series, Resident Evil 4. According to a report by the folks at VGC, the remake is being handled by M-Two, a new studio established by the former president of PlatnumGames, Tatsuya Minami. The studio assisted with the development of the Resident Evil 3 Remake, but will apparently be taking the lead on development for the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Series co-creator Shinji Mikami will not be taking the lead; he is said to be i ..read more

Final Fantasy VII Remake Review
Gameplanet Australia
by Gameplanet

Final Fantasy VII REMAKE is a spectacular game that soars and falls in equal measure. There is a lot to love here, but frustrations and disappointments mar the experience. A solid central story is undermined by needless padding. Exceptional combat loses its edge at times due to unfortunate design choices, and gorgeous visuals are muddied with some appalling technical shortcomings. Before we dive in, I would like to assure you, dear reader, that this review will contain zero spoilers. Final Fantasy VII is a beloved game, and that is primarily due to its story and characters. You are likely i ..read more

Where is our Final Fantasy VII Remake Review?

As many of you would have noticed, most of the major outlets dropped their Final Fantasy VII Remake reviews today. The general consensus is very positive, but unfortunately, our review is not quite ready just yet. In a continuing trend outside of our control, we did not receive review code until this last Saturday morning, at least several days after some other sites. Our RPG aficionado, Chris Brown is hard at work on getting the review done, but there's a lot of game to get through in Square Enix's remaster. All of the writers here at Gameplanet (myself included) work on a volunteer basis ..read more

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review
Gameplanet Australia

New Horizons is the near-perfect installment ahead of the 20th anniversary of the series. There is so much to do in this game, and Nintendo has really pushed the limits for the series with the amount of creative freedom they’ve handed over to the player. The only thing that lets it down is the clunkiness of an otherwise delightful multiplayer feature. Still, this is exactly the kind of game I want to be stuck at home with. It’s been nearly twenty years since the original Animal Forest was released in Japan, and a lot has changed. The heart of the Animal Crossing experience has always been ab ..read more
