Guitar Tone Wood Factor (Even Solidbodies)
Swap the hardware & electronics from a Les Paul into a chambered Les Paul, then explain why the chambered one sounds different. Remember that the humbuckers are NOT microphones-- and only translate string vibrations into current in either guitar. Explain why wood and hardware resonances are not the reason for the tonal differences between both guitars using the same hardware, pickups and pots.
Everything matters. The vibratio ..read more

Young Ray Goren is a little older and a lot more seasoned than when I first discovered him a few years back killin' it at NAMM with Eric Gales at age 12. So now he's all of 15-- maybe just into 16...
This recent clip by Portland, Oregon's KINK-FM
shows a taller Ray with original material featuring vocals & rhythm locked in, and solo chops galore.
We expect more from Ray than the typical "good guitar for a kid" since seeing a video interview where he demo'd through all his guitar influences including some Hendrix licks you might expect from Andy Aledort, Randy Hansen o ..read more

You bought a cool amp. You love it! Now, you’re searching for ways to make it even more awesome. More bass, more headroom, a better looking mesh—the opportunities are endless.
Congrats! You’ve entered into the great big world of modding: customizing, manipulating and maximizing your gear until it becomes your own wild creation. Now what?
Starting off can be daunting for the newbie. Not many people know enough about amps to actually get involved, especially if you don’t come from a technical background. Fortunately, in my travels I’ve come across some great amp mods ..read more

Scott Henderson fans, myself included, will eat this one up (I already have)! Great interview on Tim & Pete's Guitar Show. Serious guitarists in their own right, Tim Pierce & Pete Thorn have a regular video podcast show where they just featured 1 HOUR PLUS with Mr BigDogs himself-- although ironically, Scott isn't wearing a BigDogs t-shirt here...
That's only because Henderson's current shirt promotes his own podcast with fellow guitarist Bruce Forman, called GuitarWank. 2016 could be the year of the Guitar Podcast.
This is a fast hour as they get into Scott's approach to guitar ..read more

“It's time for a new National Anthem. America is divided into two definite divisions. The easy thing to cop out with is sayin' black and white. You can see a black person. But now to get down to the nitty-gritty, it's getting' to be old and young - not the age, but the way of thinking. Old and new, actually... because there's so many even older people that took half their lives to reach a certain point that little kids understand now.”

Looks like FMIC and Janie Hendrix finally reached a mutual power to love in releasing the 2015 MIM Jimi Hendrix Artist Stratocaster model.
A few of you geeks (like myself) may recall Gibson's attempt (PG article) to produce & release a Hendrix Strat-type back in 2009. They had 'em ready to ship, and I don't recall all the details of what halted it, but the blogosphere, forums and social media of that time were raising bloody hell against a Gibson Hendrix Strat. Never happened. Google it for bits and pieces of fallout and debris.
Fender's newest effort since th ..read more

Check out one of the best Scott Henderson video interviews that remains online. Scott is notorious for removing performance and interview vids. This one's been up since June so since it's now September, maybe it will hang around.
Marcela Campos of Brazil based Guitar Experience spends a casual 25 minutes prompting Scott through an informative tour of his history, influences, gear and ideas about composition and performing. Scott's most recent Vibe Station album is also mentioned.
Most Henderson fans will dig the influences and gear parts. But it's all good & insightful stuff ..read more
