Jill Savage | Embracing Real Life

I had a birthday a little over two weeks ago. It was a mile-marker birthday. When you’re born in 1964, you turn 60 in 2024. From an experience perspective, I feel like sixty. I’ve experienced a lot in my sixty years. From a physical perspective, I don’t feel like sixty at all. I’ve worked hard to take care of my body and I’m not stopping! From a mental perspective, I’m still somewhere around 45 in my mind. When I talk to others my age, I hear that they too feel younger in their mind as well. The best part of getting older is wisdom. Hard-earned wisdom and perspective that simply comes with lif ..read more

Jill Savage | Embracing Real Life
by JillSavage

Have you ever been in a season of life where you felt trapped in a relentless lifestyle? Years ago, Mark and I wrote a book called Living with Less so Your Family Has More. One of the key concepts woven throughout that book was the idea of choosing to live with less stress, less money, and less activities than what is the cultural norm. When I read Brenda Yoder’s new book, Uncomplicated, I felt like I had a friend with a similar passion for that message, so I asked her to join me here on the podcast. Brenda is a counselor, speaker, author, and educator from Shipshewana, Indiana. She is the aut ..read more

As warm weather arrives, many of us find a sudden motivation to poke into the dusty corners of our house and freshen up the space. If the sunshine finds you brushing off cobwebs, decluttering, and browsing the throw pillow aisle at Target, here’s something else to consider: Do you need a spring clean for your parenting, too? Work responsibilities, carpool schedules, and grocery trips can pile up like dust bunnies under the couch and cause parents to let busy days slip by without being intentional with our kids. You may even find yourself settling into habits that don’t reflect the vision you h ..read more

Jill: When we were first married, I started making plans for Mark’s birthday for the first time as a married couple. I made plans the only way I knew how: with a homemade cake and having family over for dinner. Mark: This was a sweet gesture, however, my family always celebrated with a store-bought cake and going out to dinner. It wasn’t that Jill’s way was wrong; I just had an expectation of what birthdays looked like that she was unaware of. Jill: Has something like this ever happened to you? Our differences can feel magnified when they clash with our spouse’s ideas and expectations. If lef ..read more

4 Topics We Discuss Each Week in Our Marriage
Jill Savage | Embracing Real Life

What’s one of the top practices to create a strong marriage? Believe it or not, team meetings! As a married couple, you are one team and that team can’t function well if you don’t have team meetings. A team meeting in your marriage is a dedicated time where you connect as a couple, encourage one another, review the business of the family, and discuss the business of life. This allows you to get, and stay, on the same page week after week despite what life’s busy schedule might throw your way. Mark and I have found that setting aside this time each week has been a game-changer in our marriage ..read more

What to Do When Waiting with Tiarra Atkinson | Episode 185
Jill Savage | Embracing Real Life

If you’ve heard our marriage story, then you likely know that I believed our marriage could be restored even when Mark had checked out and was pursuing another relationship. This is often referred to as “standing for your marriage,” but it could also be described as a waiting season. While I wouldn’t wish a season like this on anyone, the lessons I learned while waiting were invaluable. Those lessons have become the heart of our online course, The Wait Is Not Wasted. Several of my friends and coaching clients have also had to endure this season of waiting in their marriage, and my friend Tiarr ..read more

How to Forgive Yourself | Episode 184
Jill Savage | Embracing Real Life
by JillSavage
1M ago
We want to talk with you about a question Mark and I get asked often. People really struggle with finding an answer or finding resolve to this question: How do I forgive myself? Many times, they would say, I can’t, or I don’t even understand what I should do with that. Sometimes, it can feel like you are “unforgivable,” and it would be better if you just locked those feelings away. When we choose not to address it, it can lead to bitterness, self-loathing, self-hatred, and more. Those feelings don’t stay locked away; they leak out all over the relationships that mean the most to you and can ea ..read more
