The dream of working remote includes waking up without an alarm, taking a slow morning to journal and be creative, and tending to all those plants you’ve collected over the past year. But in reality there are dirty dishes in the sink, your child is Zooming with a class full of kids playing musical instruments, and someone is asking you what’s for dinner as you are trying to draft a Very Important Email. In this presentation Kathleen, a seasoned remote worker herself, will be sharing her very best tips and insights on: Creating structure when you feel scattered Tackling a never-ending to-do li ..read more

Pre.S. Braid has launched (a very niche) podcast for Credit Union marketers. In this post I’m going to talk about why we created such a narrow piece of content for a very specific audience and if you are a small business or creative entrepreneur why you might want to try doing the same! But if you do work at a credit union or community bank this podcast is for you. Or maybe you have colleagues, friends, or family who work in the financial marketing industry – feel free to do us a solid and share the podcast trailer with them! Your one thing

In the past four months we’ve seen creative entrepreneurs, small businesses, and organizations cope with what has become of 2020 by narrowing in on their focus, pivoting away from what they don’t want to be doing in their business, doubling down on what they’re best at, and amplifying their strengths to their dream client. We invite you to find the same clarity by answering two simple prompts that we always ask our clients when they’re going through the Braid Method: If you could only do one thing what would it be? This question helps us understand what it is our client really wants to be doin ..read more

Here at Braid, we obviously appreciate good branding – from articulate messaging to a consistent look & feel. Brand “polish” happens when your typography, layout, and color themes are consistent across platforms – and one of the biggest opportunities you have in making an impactful first impression is cohesive brand photography. Branded photography can help set the tone and make a good first impression – and it can reassure and build trust with your potential customers because you’re showing them what they can expect when they hire or buy from you. In this article we’re going to cover the ..read more

Brené Brown: The Call to Courage Netflix Special

A couple of months ago we got an email from Brené Brown asking if we’d like to see her speak in UCLA the following week – she had extra tickets and it was an extra special event that was being filmed for Netflix! The stars were aligned and we didn’t have any meetings, so Tara and I (Kathleen here) booked a quick trip to LA and for the first time since working with Brené got to see her speak live – and y’all, she crushed it. When we first took Brené through the Braid Method* (in 2013) we asked her: what’s the ONE thing you want to be known for? And she said “I want to start a national conversat ..read more

Brand Surprises

Earlier this week I had to go to the secretary of state to get a new driver’s license. Hang with me here, I promise this story has a point that is related to branding. Kathleen here with a confession: I moved from Oklahoma City to Detroit, Michigan over a year ago and as of earlier this week still had not taken care of getting a Michigan ID. Getting a new driver’s license is a lot like going to the dentist for an overdue cleaning or filing yearly income taxes – it’s just hard to get the motivation going to make it happen. Except with a driver’s license you’re not only taking care of a mundane ..read more

Grow Your Following by Building a Trustworthy Brand

A really surprising thing happened and I want to tell you about it: we grew our list by thousands of subscribers by going against the grain of everything being taught right now about list building. Email marketing is an important and effective tactic. It allows you to cut through the noise and sell directly to new customers and potential leads who actually want to hear from you. A popular way to build your list is to offer content upgrades (like free courses, worksheets, and ebooks) and enticing incentives (like exclusive offers and discounts), and earlier this year we decided to ditch this v ..read more

Kathleen here and lately I’ve been receiving a lot of emails from creative entrepreneurs who aren’t sure whether they need a business coach or a brand platform. The short answer: you’re going to need both. You can get a lot out of both a business coach and a brand platform, but the timing of where you invest your time, energy, and money for maximum impact in your business vision can be a little tricky. So where do you begin? Do you hire a business coach? Or a branding agency? Let’s dig in. WHAT A BUSINESS COACH DOES Goal-setting Prioritizing Tools & Resources Accountability Brainstorming ..read more

The Future of Online Courses

Kathleen here. The last article I posted was about the future of email marketing prompted by the new GDPR laws calling for more transparency in selling. And now it’s got me thinking about the future of educational online courses and digital products. As a course-creator myself, I’m thinking about it through the lens of what’s next for our Braid Method Branding ECourse. My intention for this post is to give you a peek behind the curtain of what goes into making a strategic business decision that doesn’t come easy. This is a longer article where I’m going to be telling you why we created an onli ..read more

The Future of Email Marketing

Kathleen here trying not to freak out about the future of online business. You too? If you’re a creative entrepreneur who does business online, you may have heard about the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This new regulation, as I understand it (and it’s been really hard to wrap my head around), means that you need to be fully transparent when it comes to collecting emails and explicit about what you’ll be doing with those email addresses. So for example, if you collect emails with an “opt-in incentive” or “content upgrade,” you’ll also have to receive consent to ad ..read more
