THE ACL GIFT GUIDE 2023
A Continuous Lean.
by Michael Williams

Gift guides aren’t important, but they can be fun. With the ever-shifting discounts of the Black Friday Cyber Monday Thanksgiving Holiday Cyber Discount Week sales I didn’t want to delay this any further — so here is my 2023 list full of gift ideas. (Gift guides from years past are here: 2022 gift guide and the 2021 gift guide. The 2020 gift guide felt a bit different.) At this point you probably know everything you need to know about gifts. This sort of rampant commercialization isn’t the end-all be-all when it showing thoughtfulness or appreciation. That said, it can still be fun to get some ..read more

Better late than never. There are a few things on this list that are personal wants and desires. Everything here is chosen with quality and timelessness in mind. Hope this list proves helpful. I know where I will be this Father’s Day. With the U.S. Open going on in Los Angeles I’m looking forward to watching the best golfers in the world work their way around the incredible North Course at LACC. Hope you all have something good planned. Style Original Madras Trading Co. — The perfect summer shirt made from authentic madras. THE ACL GOLF SHOP
A Continuous Lean.

This week I’m pleased to share the ACL GOLF shop. In a perfect world there would be much more overlap between traditional menswear and golf clothes. These things intersect in certain instances but in my opinion there should be more real menswear in golf. My goal with ACL Golf is to offer a perspective that combines the things I love about menswear —classic style, craft, simplicity— with my affection for the game of golf. There’s nothing mutually exclusive about playing golf and looking good. Some might not care about such matters, which is absolutely fine. Some might obsess over the details of ..read more

THE ACL GIFT GUIDE 2022
A Continuous Lean.
by Michael Williams
1y ago
It’s that time again — gift guide season. Considering my area of expertise it makes the most sense to do a gift guide for guys who have similar interests to me. My thought was to do a guide that could be sent to family and friends to help inspire gift ideas. Additionally, there are also some ideas for ladies and a few gift suggestions for children in the below. With Black Friday sales expanding earlier and promotions expanding to the point where nearly everything is on sale, it makes sense to get this gift guide out into the world now when people can take advantage of the discounts. As always ..read more

Going Back to New Haven
A Continuous Lean.
by Michael Williams

Our agenda was simple and fun. Check out Yale, eat pizza and play golf. When most people think of New Haven the most obvious and famous thing that comes to mind is that it’s the home of Yale University. This part of central Connecticut also has two wonderful connections to golf, the CB Macdonald and Seth Raynor designed Yale Golf Course and the most excellent Holderness & Bourne. True aficionados may also recognize it as the best pizza city in America. All of these things converged for me this summer as I walked the city with Alex Holderness and John Bourne to talk about their influen ..read more

How I Pack

This story (and many like it) are originally published on the ACL Newsletter. You can read the archives from the past two years here. We haven’t managed to get away for a proper family vacation in the past two years. Since I’m feeling a bit out of practice when it comes to this type of trip I’ve had to think hard about what to bring. As a family we have so much stuff we need for the kids and everything — it’s going to be important that I do my best to limit my personal luggage. Since I’m packing I thought it could be fun to share some of what I like to travel with here. It’s a bit late in the ..read more

Father’s Day Gift Guide
A Continuous Lean.
by Michael Williams
2y ago
I know exactly what I want for Father’s Day: peace and quiet! While I do have mixed feelings about the idea of doing commercial guides like this — it is probably helpful in the end. I do feel uniquely qualified to put a list like this together so why not. I hope it helps. One note for all of the golf dads out there. In partnership with The Fliers Club we are having a summer solstice event in a few weeks on June 20-22 at Inness in Accord, NY. It’s open to the public with a few spots still available — would love to see you there. A reminder, there’s no pay for play in any of these recommendatio ..read more
